Yes I jumped the gun on that one, it seemed so certain at the time. Then Liverpool apologized for tapping him up and it went pear shaped. An embarrassing situation all around that belongs in the bin.

Southampton have always annotated their "not for sale" statements, with the line about how only a "ridiculous offer" would get them to consider selling... Why then, have Liverpool not made this ridiculous offer, if they want him so badly?  I can see this souring Van Dijk's desire to want to come to Anfield now.  He might be thinking, "I basically went on strike and forefeited money to get a move to you, and you did not even bother/have the balls to table a bid for me.  You clearly don't want me as badly as you've made out, so now I don't want you as much as I did before".   The January, or next summer's window will most likely see him go elsewhere.
