Police to probe Barton incident

Manchester City's Joey Barton could face disciplinary action after exposing his backside to Everton fans at the end of the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Television pictures captured Barton's actions and City boss Stuart Pearce confirmed he had been approached about the incident by Merseyside Police.

Pearce said: "I did not see it. But if anything did happen, we will look at it with an open mind and deal with it."

Everton fans reacted furiously before City keeper Nicky Weaver intervened.

Pearce added: "The police approached me afterwards to make me aware of what had happened.

"I am sure the timing of our goal had a lot to do with any over-celebration.

"Maybe also there was the fact that one or two people have been saying things about our away form."

Merseysider Barton has been involved in previous incidents with Everton fans, having had an altercation with a Toffees supporter in Thailand during a pre-season tour in summer 2005 which saw him sent back to England in disgrace.

With the police already involved, it seems only a matter of time before the Football Association launches its own inquiry, with a ban virtually certain should the case against Barton be proved.

The 23-year-old's post-match conduct took the gloss off a hard-earned point for City, which halted a run of 10 defeats in their last 11 away games.

I'm Old Bill and I think this is ridiculous..... There wasn't one fan in that crowd who was offended, they just see it as a way of getting Barton into trouble, he did it with a smile on his face in reply to some banter from the blu*sh*te......
You'd think they'd never seen an ars* before, when in fact they only bought one from Man U this season......!

Well it looks like he is not getting charged by the police, there is an article on the BBC that says he will probably get charged by the F.A...bringing the game into disrepute or something like that. He probably deserves that and doesnt seem to learn his lesson...despite it being funny.
The most annoying thing that the article doesnt mention is the abuse he was taking from the Everton fans regarding his brother. As a professional he should learn to deal with it, but the Everton fans get worse and worse with every week, they are again laughing and joking about a tragic thing that has happened in there own city  :no
I really would be embarrassed to be amongst a set of fans like that.

I feel sorry for barton, he is a good player and a clever bloke (somwhere) i think he got 11 GCSEs.

He gets a lot of stick over his brother, which is unfair.

Although i am not condoning what he has done, it was stupid.

Too many fans can't take what they give out.

How many LFC fans complained that Neville celebrated too much last season.

Neville rightfully gets loads of stick but fans should be able to take a bit too.

waste of police's time.
