funny really. before the season started if there was one criticism i would have made of stevie g, it was that for a player of his ability he didn't score enough goals. ultimately, i think this new advanced role he was asked to play when we had injuries enabled him to get more shots in at goal. i personally think he can get 15+ this season.

****** the advanced role. He should play in the middle with Alonso.

My only critisism of him is he doesn't use his brain and frustrates the hell out of me with his decisions in the game. Thats it, i believe he has everything else. In all honesty its the only fault with him.

I can rarely bring myself to praise him highly because of his choice of pass. He annoys me so much sometimes. Its not even as if he doesn't know any better anymore, because he does these days. He knows not to do but carry's on. He should get there given time but we'll have to wait and see.

Great player he is though.

Alonso though has a similar problem only he's a better passer. He picks the wrong ball alot of the time. I can see This area of Alonso's game improving quicker than Stevies though.

Mind you players of that quality have to have faults i supose.

The only negative thing I can say about Alonso is that to me, he's not a natural athlete. However, he's one of those players so sharp mentally that he doesn't need to charge all over the pitch. He can control the pace of a game; it doesn't control him. It's nice to imagine how good he'll be once he's fully acclimatized, and given he's still so young, how good he'll be in a couple of years. :)

Stu ,
Seem to remember discussing this with you last season when you advocated that he should play a primarily holding/ defensive role whilst myself and others were calling for him to be allowed the freedom to steam forward in support of the front two. Now that he has that freedom  he is banging in the goals.
Long may it continue.  :D

Woof woof. I didn't say that at all.

I said he should be allowed to play his natural game and balls to a holding role in midfield. Gerrard is a natural ball winner. The best attributes in his game are all defensive either exception of his long distance shooting. He is a primarally defensive player.

I've never said he shouldn't be able to bomb forward, but i have stated in the past he should be the most defensive midfielder. Alonso is a play maker, Gerrard a ball winner.

Gerrard is however an "attack" minded ball winner so to speak and Alonso a "defensive" minded play maker.

Both are able to do both jobs, which is what i was calling out for for years. Not one to do one job and one to do another. They have to work as a team, not individuals and now we have options and quality within the options.
