if hyppia was a better defender he wouldnt need protection, thats ****** that about protecting the back four, lots of top teams dont do that, its not the end of the world if hamann is not on, the team out today is the best possible team we have at the minute

Every top team does that
keane for united
viera for arsenal
makalele for chelsea
carsley for everton  :D
even real madrid use a holding midfield player

hes too defensive for me, plus he doesn't have the passing ability of alonso

Think Hamann is the key to this team at the moment - ie, do we play him or not. We can only play him if we play 4-5-1, cos we can't think of dropping Stevie of Alonso. So, to accomodate Didi, it's 4-5-1, which mean playing a lone striker. Given that Rafa's said today in the press that he wants at least one striker in January and has been moaning lately that our dropped points have come not from goalie errors but our failure to put our chances away, he seems to be looking at two upfront, which means 4-4-2. that has to mean dropping Hamann from the starting 11, but given that Rafa's also said he wants to extend Didi's contract, I can see him being used in away matches against top teams, and being brought on for the last 20mins to defend a lead.

Otherwise, I agree with Mrcool: he's too defensive, and we've got to start attacking every team we play now. Stevie and Alonso to start: and anyway, did anyone see how much work Alonso got through today, as well as his passing? he is class: first season in the prem in a team in transition, he is ****** brilliant.

To all who doubt hamann, go back to the year 2002 champions league quarter final against leverkuson..... We were control of the match when houllier takes off hamann. Guess what happened ?

Hamann is still pure class and i feel that when he is playing the back 4 get that extra cover needed at times:)

hamann this and hamann that, what is so special about hamann, we dont need hamann regularly, hes nothing special to me

better than diao but thats not hard, i dont like him

*cough* muppet.

Hamann is a great defencive midfielder and he has saved the back four many times in the past month or so. Hamann is one of our under-rated players.

i was just happy to see harry getting cheered by the crowds
(whos that guy said we never sing at anfield? ????)
and all in all was a solid performance that made newcastle look like a very poor side indeed
