For what it's worth I would give it to Nedved, closely followed by Ronaldinho. Lampard would get my vote for the English as I believe he had better Euro than our Stevie, if that has a bearing on things !. However Henry is quality he just doesnt do it for France on a regular basis.

Deco, Ronaldinho, Nedved and Henry should be the top candidates, I say "should" because pecualrly, the judging seemed to be very much biased towards the winners of the major tourneys such as the WCup, Euro, CL etc. but these are just over a span of 6 to 7 games with the exception of the CL, wheras the players' contribution should be looked upon throughout the entire season.

Ronaldinho did very well as Barca had a phenomenal second half of the Primera Liga, as did Deco for Porto, Nedved for Juve and Check Rep and Henry for Arsenal, although his France form at the Euro was nothing to shout about. The whole French team underperformed and it is a team game and not just up to 1 player.

I should also say that in recent times, the bias has been towards "established" big names like Zidane and Ronaldo althouth there may have been others more deserving. For instance, Ronaldo won the FIFA player of the year on the basis of his goals at the 2002 WCup over some 7 games when Brazil had an easy run with weaker opponents. for me, the player of the tournament was Ballack for his goals and driving forward a poor Germany to the finals.

can i just say it is a team game and not just up to oen player... apart from world player of the year which is just about one player, not a team game
sorry but i hate to say it but henry would get my vote, altho stevie G is easily int eh world team of the year.

Giggs? you must be having a laugh. Rooney and baros had good euro 2004's but haven't even been regulars in their club sides ffs. Zagorakis? now it's just getting ridiculous.

the final three should be ronaldihno, nedved and henry. the best three players on the planet over the last year without any shadow of a doubt. :cool:

Well he plays for Internazionale, look at the score when Arsenal played them last season.
