Honestly, he doesn't need to be the the second coming of Virgil or some other Premier League legend. As long as he's as good as Matip or Gomez just without the proneness to injury, he will do for me.

So what’s everything thoughts on him?

Considering the circumstances of him being an inexperienced player being dropping into the toughest league in the world with a team that had been struggling, I think he has performed admirably. But saying that, I’m not seeing anything more than a “decent” player. He’s on the short side for a CB, nothing to write home about in terms of strength, average in the air and on the ball, is on the slow side, and has the occasional Lovren style rush of blood to the head. £18mil isn’t much now a days but personally I wouldn’t take up the option to buy as I don’t think he’s in the same league as van Djik, Gomez and Matip, and never will be.
