DIOGO JOTA - Official Thread

So it's a done deal, £41m guaranteed and a potential £4m in bonuses. Hoever going the other way in a separate deal for around £10m plus potential bonuses and a 15% sell-on clause. Apparently, it was Lijnders who insisted that we should make this transfer.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of this one. I'm happy that we signed a big money player in a position that needed filling (back-up forward/winger), but I'm not convinced by Jota's quality at all and I'm not sure he warrants such a big sum of moneg while we refused to sign Werner for a similar price. From what I've seen of Jota, he is not a lot better than what we already have as back-up for our front three. I'm sure Klopp, Lijnders and whoever else is involved know what they're doing though, I've got no reason to believe otherwise.

Welcome to the club, Diogo.

"It is understood Wolves’ willingness to accept just less than 10 per cent of the guaranteed fee over the next 12 months played a key part in the deal getting over the line."

I guess with that in mind it makes a little mors sense why we went for him. Still a very high price though.

I'm delighted we are actually signing players.

Have to admit I was just as underwhelmed when we signed Mane so with any luck this lad makes the step up in similar fashion.  Still its hard not to make the Werner comparison seeing as the fee is close.

Anyway I wish the lad the best of luck.

He’s a good player! seems expensive but I thought that about Allison, VVD and Mane and wandered whether Salah could adapt to the speed and physicality of the premiere league, which they all did. Trust the manager as he has not led us wrong yet, welcome to the club.

Teenage defender Ki-Jana Hoever is heading in the opposite direction to Jota in a £13.5 million transfer. That comprises an initial £9 million. Liverpool have secured a 15 per cent sell-on as part of the package so if you offset this fee with the 10% 4 million on Jota then it looks more attractive to Wolves, they've effectively recovered half the fee straight away.

He's going to get on with the 3 Brazilians and no doubt Thiago as well so a nice social bonding tieing them all to the club like we had with the Spaniards + Masher under Rafa.  Still no Germans though... got to assume there never will be now.

I'm made up, we're buying specific players for specific roles and no longer buying 3x Origis hoping one will work out.
Sell Origi and Brewster and we've recovered the Jota 40 million.

It's also a wake up call for Minimino and Naby...

Just been watching some YouTube clips of him, if this lad could finish he’d be a superstar. He’s got that ‘turn on a sixpence’ low centre of gravity that the likes of Peter Beardsley/Paul Walsh had, I love watching those types of players.

Really liking him so far. Looks a good fit for our style. Direct, pacey and not afraid to get a shot off.

Didn't think he was that quick, tbh. Maybe the guy he was chasing down was a flier but that one incident where he chased and blocked the keeper's clearance and the two of them belted after it, the defender was there in a hot snot...

Great start, his got pace, intelligence and can notch in goals. Just what we needed as it will now get the lads out of their comfort zone.

I can't wait for Thiago to link with Salah, Mane and Jota.

His first goal was a lovely little dink over the keeper with the outside of his left foot, his second was a great strike with his right and his third goal he calmly slotted it into an empty net with his left again. I have no idea if this lad is left or right footed! He seems comfortable on either side.
