I am not too bothered by the results in pre season, after all why would you expect wins when nearly all of your first team has been missing for most of the games? I am a little concerned that the stand ins havent really impressed or taken their opportunity to shine. Again, maybe thats because there are not enough first teamers in the side when theyve played? Lets be honest, with Mignolet in goal why would anyone think we would be solid at the back anyway? The thing which does bother me is that we dont seem to have anything up front when our 3 main players arent there. I am loathe to criticise Origi for what he did last season, but the plain fact is that he is not strong enough on his own to smash into a defense. Nowhere near. He has some great qualities but as a lone striker he isnt good enough.
Against Napoli we saw the wastefulness and lack of bite that we had seen at certain times last season. The indecisiveness and making of wrong decisions. The lack of confidence in front of goal (Henderson) and slow pace with half hearted pressing. Maybe we should lower our expectations and try to resist the feeling that as current champions of europe we should be steamrollering anyone who plays us? One more friendly before the charity shield and then into the season proper. If we want to hit the ground running we must have our absent best players fit, healthy and raring to go. Hurry up Mo, Bobby, Sadio and Alisson, we need you more than ever...

Mate , be f*cking fair !

NONE of the goals conceded against Napoli could be blamed on the keeper !

The back four were at times all over the place.

TAA for one was caught on numerous occasions out of position and skinned time and time again .

Doubt any keeper could have saved at least two of Napoli's sublime finishes.

Migs has his faults but can't blame him for an insipid performance by the team.

I was talking overall to be honest, not just the Napoli game. He doesnt instill confidence like Becker and he has his fair amount of brainfarts, the goal against sporting was an example of Mignolets moments.

Not just the returning players. Everyone has looked fresher. Klopp said after Napoli that training would return to normal and freshness would return to the legs and it has showed today. Hoever looked good and Keita looks well up for the new season.

So

Seems a good number of young lads will fill some squad roles - Hoever and Larrouci look very capable of being there for the full back roles

Keita looked very sharp , Lallana looks like could be an option against teams that sit deep - Ox looked sharper

And you can see how different it is with Bobby there - superb link player and great to see Wilson find the target

Maybe all is not lost after all

Hoever looked really good, he's grown a lot compared to how he looked against Wolves last season. He's developing into a real athlete. i was impressed by Lallana in MF as well, I wouldn't go as far as to say he adds more creativity to the side but he definitely gives us more ability on the ball. Wouldn't mind seeing a MF of Fabinho, Keita and Lallana against City.
