For once I'm glad that we were very decisive  with VVD's transfer and the 75 millions seems kinda worth it now...

The way things are going he looks like a bargain right now.

Am relived we made our move for him in January. Good quality CBs are in short supply right now and I think clubs would have been queuing up for his signature if we waited until the summer.

Made Benteke look proper *****.

won the header for Mane's goal and was immense all over. His aura made everyone around him look better.

Plus having a top class keeper between the sticks also helped confidence.

Give Klopp credit, he knows how to spend big money on big players.  Well worth the wait.

Yup,

same thing we are seeing with Alisson.

Who is miles ahead of any GK we've had since Pepe Reina

Can't praise this guy enough, completely transformed our defence. IMO our defence won us the game today, and while not taking anything away from the likes of Robertson, Allison etc, this guy is the main reason why we finally don't look like conceding anytime the oponent attacks. Keep this guy fit, and we may have a shot at the title. Best CB in the world for me, £75m was a bargain for him!

Virgil van Dijk's game by numbers vs. Crystal Palace:

100% tackles won
92.4% pass accuracy
91 touches
10 successful long balls
9 aerial duels won
8 clearances
2 tackles
1 clean sheet
Liverpool won 13 aerial duels against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park; Virgil van Dijk was responsible for nine of them.
Dominant display.

Colossal! Van Dijk is a beast i can't belive we've got Allison and Van Dijk at the back. If only we had another solid CB.

Why is he not our captain yet?!?

He is head and shoulders already our best leader on the field and would have the respect of all the players.

I agree the big iron gate should be our captain hands down.

I think he has now become our most important player and pivotal in whether we win the title. The way he has transformed us defensively and the impact he has had on the team is remarkable, looks truly world class. I think if we win the title this year he has to stay injury free.

Carragher even mentioned that Virgil could hit legend status if he helps us achieve glory.
It has been a looooooong time since we've had a reliable CB, last one was Hyypia.

I think he'll end up much better than Hyypia as he is more complete at a footballer. He's fast ( which Hyypia was not), great passer, great in the air, composed in the tackle. If he stays long enough (and relatively injury free)he could be the best defender we've had.

He's not a thug like Terry, Ramos, Ferdinand etc, he is a Rolls Royce of a defender and I'm glad we got him.
