£180K per week...but as far as I'm concerned it's all relative. £100K for Sturridge is expensive but £180K for Van Dijk is worthy

Prone to the odd lapse in concentration though. Had at least one, maybe two last night in the 6 yard box.

so did Rio Ferdinand, but still looked good.

I'm so glad he choose us over the likes of Man City and Chelsea and I'm so glad that Klopp was prepared to wait and the board were prepared to break the world transfer record for a defender. I had my doubts about him but so far he's looked every bit the world class defender we've so badly needed for years.

He's got a swagger about him that oozes confidence and calm within our defense. As a result, if our midfielders don't know what to do, they simply give the ball to VVD.

He's still got room to improve...he should score more goals from set pieces and he's prone to the odd sloppy error. But make no mistake, he's the f**king mustard and the best defender we've had since big Sami.

Just behind Firmino for MOTM for me. Apart from the early mistake (which wasn't entirely his fault, plus he was fouled IMO), he was a colossus today, never lost a duel. Like others have said, he has completely transformed our defence. What a signing!

Every header he won. Directing the defense (again) and directing the keeper. He's a future captain  :nod

Our defence looks fully reinforced with him at the back.
Good Stuff

I don't think it was a foul tbh, there was minimal contact and Virgil should have played to the whistle, what he did do well though was not panic, plenty of players would have fallen apart after gifting the opposition a cheap goal like that (especially in such a big game) but as others have mentioned he was imperious after that.

It seems like good defenders are in short supply these days. Man United were ready to spend 100 million pounds on a CB but they couldn't get it done. For once I'm glad that we were very decisive  with VVD's transfer and the 75 millions seems kinda worth it now...

Most were b!tching at the price tag when he was bought in.
But we now have a very good working transfer policy / team.
HINDSIGHT is 20/20
