Must admit I hadn’t realised just how many games he had participated in. Either my memory is truly fecked or his performances were so mind blowingly forgettable that I didn’t notice him on the pitch. Can’t be bothered going through the games he played in but I would guess that in a lot of them he came on as a substitute. I was desperate for the lad to be a success. He cost £52m which is one hell of a lot of money given the quality of his performances. I appreciate that he has been unfortunate with injuries and that certainly hasn’t helped.
During a 4 year period (2014/18) in the Bundesliga with Salzburg and Leipzig he played in 101 games and scored 31 goals. The goals return for a midfield player is impressive however he could have played in a possible 136 games if it wasn’t for injury. He is clearly suited to German football. The Premiership in my opinion is a much tougher gig.
