For a bit of Fun, and as i'm reaching what i'm told is middle age, combined with the fact we've had a lot of talk recently  re the Squad and we need better players, The  FSG transfer policy etc, Just as a thought and trying to lighten the mood of the Forum bearing in mind results of late, combined with the fact we don't have a competitive game until the 27th, I thought i'd try and think of the best squad of Current and Former players i'd want as an All Conquering Team.

An all time squad of 30 players that we'd hopefully all enjoy; Here's my squad of players I've seen wear the RED Jersey over the past 40 odd years, This is open to ALL, I may go back a few years on some Forum members but this is meant to Fun, Pick Your 30 Best Squad and submit;

Good thread this, bit unfair on some of the old time players though like Liddell, Scott, Raisbeck etc and even some of the lads that played under Shankly. Maybe we should do a 1892-2017 version as well

Nice idea mate.

I struggle with 30 players because there are 50 'greats'.

1 Ray Clemence
2 Phil Neal
3 Alan Kennedy
4 Ron Yates
5 Ray Kennedy
6 Alan Hansen
7 Kenny Dalglish
8 Steven Gerrard
9 Ian Rush
10 Luiz Suarez
11 Graeme Souness

That team could beat any in the world. Struggled over whether Alec Lindsay should be at LB. Zico needed to be RB but that left out Chris Lawler!

12 Pepe Reina
13 Alec Lindsay
14 Jamie Carragher
15 Mark Lawrenson
16 Emlyn Hughes
17 Jimmy Case
18 Xabi Alonso
19 Ian Callaghan
20 John Barnes
21 John Toshack
22 Robbie Fowler

Feck, no room for Tommy Smith?

23 Peter Beardsley in goal!
24 Tommy Smith
25 Phil Thompson
26 Sami Hypia
27. Steve Nicholl
28 Peter Thompson
29 Steve Heighway
30 Fernando Torres
31 Terry Macdermott
32 Michael Owen
33 Jan Molby

Another world class team. What about Sammy Lee! Owen's in the 3rd team! No room for Keegan!

Only 30... not easy.

Clearly, I don't go all the way back... but I feel that in my time supporting, the best team could also beat almost anyone in the league and could win multiple League titles. I will restrict myself to the best XI and only choose players from 1998 till now. The players chosen are the version at their peak while playing for LFC.

                         Reina

Babbel      Agger     Hyppia   Carragher

               Hamann    Alonso

                      Gerrard

         Suarez                  Coutinho
                       Torres

I find myself lacking in a world class left back in the my restricted period 1998 - to now. I thought about choosing Riise, but then I felt that his game was abit too one dimensional. So I chose Carragher as LB and Agger as CB. I feel that Agger on form and not hampered by injuries was a really classy ball playing CB with top notch attitude and he will die for the shirt. I like the look of this line up. It has a very strong and solid back line. Very strong and yet with good distribution Defensive midfield in Hamann and Alonso. Gerrard at his destructive best at AM. Suarez and Coutinho with tons of creativity. And Torres to bang in the goals. Suarez could also contribute with lots of goals.

No holding midfielder mate? No room for Mascher in that 'young' formation?

Like Mikz pointed out, Hamann is the DM mate. Alonso is also considered a "holding midfielder". But he is more of a deep lying distributor.

IMO Mascherano was better than Hamann, given the career Javier went on to have it's amazing that Rafa picked him up from West Ham reserves.

IMO though Masch was not really in the West Ham reserves, in the sense that everyone knows that he doesn't belong in West Ham let alone their reserves. He was already an Argentine international and alot of clubs were after his signature. Him and Tevez some kind of shady third party ownership going on; their signature was owned by their agent company or some non-sense like that. And they had some shady clauses in their contract with West Ham. That's why they weren't playing. What's amazing is that no other club picked up him from West Ham. Rafa was quick and decisive. That's what I like about Rafa.
