I've been browsing the United Red Cafe forum having a laugh at their melt downs over Van Gaal. They have a discussion titled "which manager has the best transfer record ever?". It's ridiculous. Redknapp, Mourinho, Pardew and Fergie all get a mention. Watching the video of 1977 got me thinking of Paisley's transfer record. He sold Keegan for £500,000 and bought Dalglish for £440,000. In January 1978 he bought Souness for £350,000 (I think) and all on one day in August 1981 he sold Clemence, Irwin and Case in the morning and then bought Lawrenson for £900,000 in the evening (without even taking off his slippers). The man was a genius and the way he balanced the books while bringing in world class talents he was also an accountants dream manager. Obviously I'm biased but I don't think there is any manager that can compare to Paisley's record in the transfer market.
