I was hoping for a brave new dawn under Jurgen transfer wise but it seems suspiciously like business as usual. What are we trying to do here, challenge for the top prizes in the game or cement our position as a mid table side?

He's cover mate.

We were linked to Subotic but Dortmund have ruled out any loan deals. No point buying anyone now if we'll be signing Matip for free in the summer - as reported

Well Jurgen has already hinted that Grujic wasn't really his signing and now a loan deal for the type of archetypical prem proven plodder that has seen us pi$$ £200m up the wall.
Wether Caulker turns out to be a handy back up or not this doesn't look like the brave new world many of us envisaged, it just looks like business as usual (i.e a 19 year old prospect and an ex Swansea player)

Certainly not the kind of signing I expected us to make ,to say its underwhelming would be an understatement. I haven't been this less enthused since we signed Bogdan.

What's the point in signing this bloke?  ???

Mediocre cover in case most of our CBs are injured?

Would prefer we gave our kids a chance instead of a plodder that can't even make the QPR starting XI.

We needed someone with Premier League experience to come in at short notice and be prepared to play immediately already. So all things considered, I think this is a good signing. It's just a short term loan, so we have cover now when we need it, because Ilori has shown that he's not a short term option. And when all our defenders get fit again, he's off. Though if he impresses himself, then I guess there might be an option to sign on. So no loss really.... unless he effs up and costs us a goal or two against Arsenal or worse, the Scummers

Calm down dears, we've just signed Joël Matip on a free. Caulker is cover and - if he doesn't step up - will be gone in the summer when Matip arrives.  :nod

Don't really see the issue with this signing. I don't expect him to play once the injury issues have eased. Nothing more really

Caulker might come in and do a good job, for all his deficiencies on the ground he is a big strong lad who's good in the air plus he's someone who won't be bullied as well so he may just be what we are looking for, my concern was that it was starting to look like Jurgen wasn't having much of an input in terms of who was coming in but the signing of Matip looks a Klopp buy all day long.
Panic over.

there is nothing to confirm, the mirror printed that there is an "agreement in principle", nothing is signed but there is a gentleman's agreement in place (which seems to mean nothing anymore)

I dont think anyones expecting much from Caulker but in terms of psychology it may prompt the owners to dig deep if a journeyman defender is at least as good as what the club have retained long term or invested £20m+ on.

I think Klopp knows that playing youngsters is more detrimental to their improvement than good.
So why not opt for cheap experience? At the end of the day, forbid if SC was to get a career threatening injury. But at the sometime, would we even care?
Unlike our youngsters, who we want to see evolve.
Klopp knows best and knows what he's doing.

Yes lad I'd care. He's signed to play football for Liverpool FC and I support the team and not selected parts.

Turns out this lad had a few problems off the field, which probably explains where he never made it here.
