Sturridge, Lambert, Borini & Balotelli - 8 Goals in total

Danny Ings - 11 Goals

More a reflection of how bad we've been than how good Ings has been.

Fair point Ant, what about this stat...

Danny Ings: 11 goals in 35 PL games, £5m.
Lukaku: 10 goals in 36 PL games, £28m.

I dont even care about how much we paid/will pay or what wages hes on. This is exactly the sort of signing WE SHOULDNT be making. After the Downing, Carroll, Assaidi, Borini, Lambert, etc. cr@p we've signed you'd think someone at the club would have the brains to think: You know, we already have Sturridge, Borini, Lambert, Balotelli, Origi at the club.. Why dont we go for someone who is good enough for a change.

There are 5 or 6 clubs in the league where Ings would be a starter. That says enough about what we brought in. We now have 6 forwards and only Sturridge is good enough to start if we have ambitions of challenging for a top4 (maybe even a top5) spot. Does that mean we wont be signing a good forward this summer ?

Hey all the moaners, BR is putting his head on the block with these signings, he doesn't want to lose his job so lets give the lad a chance eh?

Like the season gone? If Ings fails, he'll be frozen out and blamed on the committee. If he's a hit, it'll be Rodgers shrewd eye, top notch coaching and superb man-management skills, no doubt :D

Decent squad striker, but we already have many of those. I dont see the point in this transfer.

So fcking what ? We have 6 forwards at the club, 5 of them are useless (I'd argue BR shares that opinion too since he played Sterling and even Lallana ahead of the ones we had available). We go out and get another one -who in my books isnt even as good as Balotelli- on a free.

I never called for Rodgers to be sacked but it was always going to come down to the players he brings in this summer. It's simple really, if you have 6 forwards at the club and you go out and sign the 7th, it would be pretty fcking daft to go out and spend another 30mill to bring an 8th. Would make the signing of Ings that much worse.

And by the way Leeroy, commenting on every post that has anything critical to say about the manager/transfers/results with the same garbage is just as fcking boring as others blaming Rodgers for everything so give it a rest.

I have to agree with this, when we were first linked with him I was open to the idea of signing him but when you take a step back and look at our business in the transfer market as a whole and look at the general direction of travel we are definitely dropping away from the top clubs.
United have signed Depay, bid for Sterling and have held meetings with Benzema's agent, we on the other hand have signed two players out of contract and are looking at a third (Bogdan).
Danny Ings may turn out to be an inspired piece of business but let's face it if it happens we will have gotten very lucky indeed because 9 times out of 10 these low price gambles amount to nothing.
The frustrating thing for me is that we have the makings of a top 4 side but we need to add quality to our squad, not bog standard prem players like Milner and Ings.
Looks to me like the owners have thrown the towel in re the top 4.

To be honest we are always going to go for these types of players.

We have won nothing noteworthy (Except League Cup)for almost 9 years and currently lie 6th in the Premier League. We have no Champions League football and we cannot compensate for this with big wages.

It is what it is.

What "ready made world class" player would come to us ?

None IMO.

We need to wake up and realise what we are,

NOT what we once were.

You can almost guess Rodgers' press conference on the unveiling of Ings...

"He is an outstanding talent. He is tactician in finishing. He also trains hard. He is a honest individual. He is the English David Villa."

According to those Deloitte figures though we are the 8th richest club in the world and that's without us being CL regulars, if we were CL regulars like all the clubs above us in that list we'd be right up there with the United's and Real Madrid's.
How many clubs could fill the Melbourne cricket ground like we did a couple of seasons ago? Not f**king many, certainly not the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG, City, AC Milan etc.
How many clubs could play a friendly against Celtic in Dublin and have 2/3 of the ground? When ever we play in a European final it's the same.
A club of this stature shouldn't be scrambling round for free signings like Milner and Ings, okay we haven't got petro dollar owners so no one expects us to put bids in for Messi and Ronaldo but ffs surely there is some middle ground.
We should be signing players like Kovacic, Yarmalenko, Vietto etc not the mid table fodder we are signing and being linked with
There's no way a club of our stature should be scrambling around for Bosman's and cheap deals
