I agree RB - DS is one of the best in the game on goal per game ratio.
Remember Owen, Fowler, Heskey and Litmanen? Anyone of whom would easily walk into our current starting 11.
The issue isn't DS the issue is the lack of quality strikers currently at the club.

The lad is crocked.

Nobody disputes his goalscoring talent or that without him in the side we are a lesser team. But sustaining this volume of repeated injuries is not normal and we simply cannot depend on him any more.

If some fans no longer feel that paying him 100k a week to not play is worthwhile then they're entitled to that opinion.

Personally I'm on the fence in terms of keeping him long term. He'll struggle to play 20 league games this season. He managed 7 last season. At some point we'll have to make a difficult decision on him if things don't improve.

We won't sell him in January, not a chance, and probably not in the summer either even should he not play a game from now til then.  But if there is not an improved appearance record from the start next season I think his career here is over.

You could be right. At the end of the day his wages are irrelevant to us fans as we do not control the market.
When he goes, I'm sure that Klopp (if still at the club when DS departs) will invest wisely and bring in someone just as good but less injury prone.

Aguero does pick up injuries RBG but still manages far more games per season than sturridge does.

Season       Aguero      Sturridge

2006 - 2007                              42                                  2
2007 - 2008                              50                                  4
2008 - 2009                              47                                  26
2009 - 2010                              54                                  20
2010 - 2011                              41                                  21
2011 - 2012                              48                                  43
2012 - 2013                              40                                  28 * 12 of those as a chelsea player *
2013 - 2014                              34                                  33
2014 - 2015                              42                                  17
2015 - 2016                              11to date                        3 to date

Those figures are in all competitions.

His goal per game ratio is fantastic with us but he has only ever broke 20 goals in a season once. That was in 2013 - 14 with 24. His best behind that was 13 goals in 2011 - 12.

The talk is that he 50/50 for the city match but probably the same odds that he will be crocked again by the time the christmas period is over. That is what frustrates fans the most.

As Murphy's law dictates you can pretty much guarantee that the moment we sell Sturridge his injuries will clear up.

The problem is we are so reliant on him to score goals. If we had a striker netting goals for fun we would all be on here saying let him rest and get his body right.

Sturridge is an asset, but we need to get another guy on par with him other wise we are screwed for the long haul.

The big problem is that we cant depend on Sturridge to be our main striker or even a reliable backup, he is just a luxury player. If we can afford to keep him in addition to a new top striker and some decent reliable backup then keep him. If we cant afford it we are better off without him.

One question:
Who would the fans like to see brought in as DS replacement?

Messi or Lewandowski , take your pick   :D

It's not actually as mad as it sounds, if only we had the money, I think Klopp could get into Lewandowski's head and repeated rumours say Messi is not entirely happy in Spain.

Berahino could be a slightly more realistic target for us

I'd bring Suarez back lol.

Dirkster is that wild player, tireless machine Klopp would love. If Rafa loved his work rate.

Remy is a great replacement for Sturridge and he isn't getting much game time at Chelsea
