Daniel Sturridge has confirmed that he has undergone surgery in America to sort out his troublesome hip injury.

The Liverpool striker flew to Boston last week to see a specialist after the latest setback in an injury-plagued campaign.

The decision was taken for Sturridge, who has missed the Reds’ past five matches, to go under the knife and his rehabilitation will rule him out of the club’s three remaining Premier League games this term.

“Just want to let the world know I’ve had a successful operation on my hip today and I want to thank God for allowing that to be possible,” he posted on social media.

“Onwards and upwards from here. Thanks for the support. Daniel x.”

Sturridge spent time earlier this season with the medical staff of the Boston Red Sox in an attempt to solve the thigh and calf problems that had blighted his season.

The 25-year-old has been restricted to just 12 starts and six substitute appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side and has scored just five goals.

Forgotten man Daniel Sturridge is to return to Liverpool training in the next fortnight, and is targeting a return against Man United next month.

The news is reported by several of the Liverpool correspondents in Wednesday’s papers, with Paul Joyce writing that Sturridge “is expected to be back at Melwood before the end of the month, with Liverpool pencilling in his long-awaited comeback after the international break in September.”

David Maddock explains: “He will fly back to the UK this weekend to complete his rehab, before joining his team-mates towards the end of the month to begin full training.”

Liverpool host Man United on September 12th – the first game after the international break.

If that game arrives too soon, Liverpool’s next game is their Europa League group opener five days later, which would be an ideal opportunity to ease Sturridge back into fitness.

The 25-year-old striker managed just 18 appearances for the Reds last season and last played in April. He underwent an operation on his hip in New York in May and has continued his rehabilitation in America all summer.

Initial reports had suggested it would be mid-to-late October by the time Sturridge would be back available again.

Sturridge’s return, whenever it arrives, will open an interesting selection headache for Brendan Rodgers – how does he accommodate both Sturridge and new signing Christian Benteke – and while also involving Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino?

Cheers for that mate, the last paragraph of that article does pose an interesting question.
I don't think Sturridge is anywhere near as effective played out wide so I think it's either a straight fight between him and Benteke for the one CF spot or a change of formation to go with 2 up top.
Maybe something like this -

                                               Mingolet

                                Can.          Skrtel.       Sakho

                                         Lucas.       Hendo

                            Milner.        Coutinho         Firmino

                                     Sturridge.       Benteke

Normally I'd prefer to see Ibe alongside Coutinho and Firmino but that might be a bit too attacking, Milner would give us a bit of solidity whist still getting his crosses in etc.

Sturridge would be thefirst name on the team sheet when fit and match ready.

I'd go with a diamond:

                                               Mingolet

                         Clyne          Skrtel       Sakho      Moreno

                                         (Lucas/Hend/Can)

                                        Milner        Coutinho

                                                Firmino

                                     Sturridge       Benteke

Some promising videos on Danny's Twitter feed of him doing ball work. Echo is saying he might be back in training in a few weeks.

You do have a point there. Its like his always injured and we tend to rely on him to come back and be our saviour.

With his injury record i don't think any top team would want to buy him. We can slap on a big fee but doubt will get that much.

Lets see how he is when his back if injury free then hopefully all is good, for the time being. :-p

He's our best player imo. And his value is probably at it's lowest at the moment. I'd just cross my fingers and hope he doesnt get injured again till the end of the season because he's one of the few difference makers we have in the side.
