Of course its madness , you could have a team finishing 8th or 9th in the league playing a couple of playoff matches an they end up in the Champions league, absolute joke imo. Same way the playoffs are in division one,

Almost as stupid as a team finishing fourth playing in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE maybe they should change the name to Top three and playoffs league ...... might not have the same catchy ring to it though

Posted: Mon Feb 15, 2010 2:50 pmThis is all hearsay as it'll be 3 years until it's implemented if at all. But if it was in place this season then it would maybe suit us and help us secure the CL spot.
I am confident of making the top 4 (maybe 3) but we have a number of top stars (Torres, Yossi, Johnson etc) all due back over the coming weeks meaning we are likely to end the season strongly with a (hopefully) fully fit squad. The challenge is going to be hanging on in there until we get these players back. At the same time we need to ensure our key players at the moment (Gerrard, Mascha, Lucas, Reina and Carra) remain fit and well.

1. renaming it from the 'European Cup'
2. allowing 3rd and 4th place teams to enter it.
I know that means we'd of missed some seasons CL footie but it's too easy to get into now and the name is sh1t

Since when was knock-out football fair?
Surely the final league positions are more suitable, as the team has proved to be better/more consistent in that season overall?

I really do think the 4th place team in the Prem is better than the Champions of Latvia or Macedonia.
Including 3rd and 4th place teams from bigger leagues really does strengthen the competition.
It would be a much weaker competition if only Champions were involved.

The same arguement could also be applied to the World Cup. No doubt the second strongest team from Spain, Brazil, France, Holland ......maybe even England would be much stronger than some team from Estonia or NewZealand ...... wouldn't be a World Cup though would it ?
