You've heard expressions like "glass half empty", well fergie is more "bottle always empty". He drank his bodyweight in whiskey before dreaming that one up.
I don't blame him though, offering a risible amount for a rivals' key player is not only "trying your luck" but unsettling. Perhaps he's simply trying to unsettle Torres like Madrid unsettled Ronaldo.
Didn't Torres turn down a move to old twa'tford before coming to Anfield? Torres is the last player I'd sell, unless someone offered silly money and even then reluctantly. He's the only player who isn't hitting on 30 or replacable, Reina's about the next closest to irreplacable as we'd have a hard time finding someone who'd sell us a keeper as good as him. Of course Kuyt's one of a kind, but I might take a £30m+ offer for him
