People are not allowed to differ with your opinion ?  :eyebrow

im sorry but how did my post imply that again ?

It's very simple. Why can't 33 people think Alonso is our player of the season ? Why is it shocking ? Just because you don't think he's our player of the season ?

Not that difficult to understand. eh ?  :eyebrow

whatever dude.

I can understand why aCe' might raise an eyebrow, I got the distinct impression from the "your season's best" thread that Gerrard was way out in front. So I did a quick count, basing it only on those who listed their full compliment of best defender, best midfielder etc etc etc, plus any that quoted someone else and said "that matches mine perfectly" and.............

Gerrard : 15 nominations/votes plus two halves
Kuyt : 6 nominations/votes plus one half
Alonso : 4 nominations/votes plus one half

So to see Alonso walking it hands down is very odd, looks very fergie trying to influence voting on YDHTB POTY awards. It's not as if you could say Alonso was best midfielder and Gerrard best player, without the growing viewpoint that Gerrard is as much an attacker as midfielder.

I would expect at best Alonso to be in a close two horse race, so are members on here changing their mind based on Alonso hitting the bar twice, swayed by changing consensus of opinion or is there a sinister force at work here........?

Perhaps the Alonso faithful only do polls, perhaps they don't go a bundle on typing or their internet connection only lasts long enough for a few mouse clicks!

Can't believe I typed "their" either

Ah well, closet Alonso fans vote in numbers. It is only a poll, very few mean a lot. I prefer threads where you can list top three eg 1. Gerrard, 2. Kuyt, 3. Alonso

It's irrelevant Owzat, myself was about to vote Gerrard but didn't bother much and I voted Alonso!

I don't think there are many differences in the taste of fans that voted Gerrard and Alonso!

Quite simply more red fans, are simply delighted to have seen a very good Alonso season, they acknowledge the improvement, and they tend to click that because they're happy, without that even meaning they like Gerrard any less.

Same could be applied to those who voted Kuyt or Benayoun, people are giving a "tribute" and recognition to their good work this season.

I voted Gerrard who has imo definately yet again been our player of the season.
He has had an unfortunate time with injuries and others (Yossi & Dirk) have stepped upto the plate in his absence.
Having said that he has been the leagues best player imo and although Alonso has enjoyed an exceptional season he still hasnt eclipsed our skipper.

I can see why so many have gone for Xabi and am cool with it, but i think if the vote had been done about a month ago - before Gerrards latest setback and Alonso best form it would have seen a significantly different result.

Funny how Xabi seems to step up to the plate alot more when Stevie is out though, its like he thrives on the added responsibility.

Either way both have been fantastic but Stevie gets it for his ability to take games by the scruff of the neck and change them in our favour.
