Roof trusses are going up over this weekend so it will start to look quite different. A lot of the heavy works go on over the summer but I assume they'll also be able to get a lot done when the world cup is on.

Sounds like no more expansion unless they buy the surrounding houses. Does anyone understand more about it?

Despite being a little tricky, the expansion of the Anfield Road was clearly something the club thought they could do as we applied for outline permission as part of the planning permission for the Main Stand.

To create space for the expansion of the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand, one, possibly two/three rows of houses, would need to be knocked down. Considering all the work the club has done with the Anfield community and collaborative approach to the expansion of the Anfield Road end, I can't see them going down the compulsory purchase order route and to be frank my guess is that the council wouldn't be supportive anyway. The Kop backs onto an A road which makes expansion there quite complicated.

But beyond the above issues, the council have long held the position that 60,000 is the biggest they will allow unless there is some sort of solution to the match day congestion that effects the locals. So unless something is agreed around public transport/roads, the club has no chance of getting further expansion approved even if it was physically possible. Can't see any more spades in the ground in the next 5-10 years with any further work being concentrated on improving inside the stadium.

The economy will put the knockers on any further expansion anyway. Come the day the city needs more investment and the benefit of a further 10,000 people in hotels, restaurants etc.. the club will get its planning permission. In the meantime the city planners have a far bigger problem digging Everton out of their current shitpot, halfway through building a new stadium whilst selling a bankrupt club. Makes FSG look like angels.

Now our final home game is done, work can accelerate on completing the Anfield Road upgrade in time for the new season. Great that an additional 7000 fans will be able attend matches from next season.

Apparently the contracting company doing the stadium has gone into administration. They are looking for another contracting company to complete the work. The October date for completion is looking unlikely.

A lot of people's livelihoods will be effected by this. People getting laid off and sub contractors who have done tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds of work wondering if they'll get paid. Not completely uncommon in the construction industry but very sad to see.

Yes that is a major concern. I remember a Liverpool firm going bust in the 1990's, they owed suppliers hundreds of thousands all the way down to the window cleaner who hadn't been paid for 6 months. The decision could have been made earlier, these things can always been handled better. My company shipped $1 million of material to a company in Italy many years ago, they consumed it and didn't way. They went bust and we were told we had no chance to get the money back as the banks and electricity company were at the top of the queue and would basically take all the money raised by selling the assets. They knowingly stole our consignment.

I think certainly the club knew before it was reported yesterday.
