Not sure but he scored some great ones along the way. I was watching his part on 100 PWSTK and it brought back some great memories.

I had a season ticket for one season and it happened to be the 1987-88 season when Barnes was at his peak.  No player in the English game could touch him, he was by far and away the best player around at the time.  Bryan Robson was considered good but he wasn't in Barnes' class, besides, different types of players.

In my opinion, he can be mentioned in the same breath as Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard, arguably the best player and most gifted individual to pull on the Red shirt.

He scored a headed goal against Hull City on the way to winning the FA Cup in 1988-89, so there's at least one for you.

No idea what the answer is, sorry.

Barnes strikes me as a top man as well as a top playe.

He can't present, he can't manage.

But there's more to life than that.

Not a header but that goal against Crewe was mint, I alway remember playing football in the back garden with Steve McMahon and he tough me how to curl the ball with the outside of my foot like Johnny Barnes cos he was left footed like me, he also got me a pair of Barnes' Diadora boots that he'd worn  :bowdown  :buttrock

A little off topic but me bird saw Digger in Costco and got him to autograph her receipt for me.

He was my favourite player growing up as a red.

Awesome.

must say im impressed with knowledge on here.
thanks for that
got me remembering some of his great games and goals i have seen
like the 2 goals he scored against QPR at home when we beat them 4-0.
1 was goal of the season i think, when he ran from the half way line and took on most of their team in 87-88.
again thanks for the knowledge

I remember he scored a headed goal from a corner in a 3-1 defeat to the scum, the same game where James had a complete nightmare and we conceded 2 headed goals from Pallister.  Not a good day at the office for us.

Quality player Barnes, think I was a bit young to appreciate just how good he was at his peak back then, but even as he got older and moved to centre mid, he still had a touch of class about him.

I agree....I seen Dalglish and Gerrard play and am honoured to have been at Anfield when Digger played his first game there and Barnes was up there with the absolute best...He was maradona-esque in 1988-1989....he literally destroyed teams on his own at times...an absolute genius and was always a credit to Liverpool Football Club
