CB - Agger
RB - Finnan
LW - Kewell
CM - Gerrard
CM - Alonso
RW - Simao
CF - Crouch
CF - Defoe

Bench

It's been done half to death, but in the spirit of endseason, here goes:
I'll just include the "subs" in their respective positions, as we don't have a full blood first team, rather a rotation squad.

GK - Reina (Dudek)

LB - Aurelio (Riise, Traore)
CB - Agger (Hyypia)
CB - Carragher (Paletta)
RB - Finnan (Kromkamp)

LW - Gonzales (Kewell)
CM - Alonso (Zenden)
CM - Gerrard (Garcia)
CM - Sissoko (Hamann)
RW - Joaquin (Cisse)

CF -  Kuyt (Fowler, Cisse, Crouch)

In a 4-5-1 with Alonso and Momo as defensive midfielders, and Gerrard, Gonzales and Joaquin as attacking midfielders.  Classical 4-2-3-1 position that I ultimatly believe Bentiez will adapt our game more to.

I think you both underestimate Hyypia's chances of being a regular starter in defence.

I'd go with:

                                         Reina
                                         Dudek
Finnan                   JC                       Sami                 Aurelio
Kromkamp               Paletta                Agger                  Riise

                         Sissoko
                         Hamann               Alonso
                                                 Zenden
New Player                                                              Kewell
Anderson                  Gerrard                                    Gonzalez*
                               Garcia
                                           New Striker.
                                            Crouch
                                             Fowler

* Depending on how quickly Mark settles.

I think it's a waste of time trying to guess who Rafa will buy like this, as it can get your line-up all wrong.

If I were pushed, my guess for RW would be Victor from Deportivo who we almost signed in January, as he's available on a free. Rafa will most probably get another player in for this position, unless he thinks Anderson can step into the first-team in '06-'07.

As far as new strikers are concerned, I have absolutely no idea who Rafa will buy. Not a single clue. :D

That is not a bad thing at all, as when even us LFC fans are clueless as to whom Rafa rates highest, then surely there's no way in hell the owner club knows it either.

All a part of the haggeling techniques of mr. Benitez, as fustrating as it can be as a fan now and then.  :D

:buttrock   spot on lando! i'd agree with that.

Though I do like Riise - aint the best LB but i do like the guy. - think its the fact that i love a pacey left back who and cross, and who has a good shot on him. He's scored some cracking goals for us

I dont see Victor being good enough for challenging for the title and champs league. I'd like to see someone who'll scare the oposition. make them think he's a real dangerman. All money aside i'd like to see joaquin and pennant, but i dont think we'l afford them and a top striker... so i'm gonne leave it to the man who knows best...

... in Rafa we trust  :buttrock

I hope Cisse stays unless he is replaced by someone who is clearly superior (like Owen). It's just a game of musical chairs otherwise. Most possible replacements probably won't do any better than Cisse's tally of 19 goals.

I think Cisse should stay. Give him untiol Jan transfer window and see what he has done. Unless he is replaced (as in above post), with comebody like Michael Owen.

Why is everybody so keen on Defoe - he can't get in the Tottenham side, surely you aren't suggesting we should take on somebody like that?  Perhaps he IS better than some of our current crop - so from that point of view he would be an improvement, but we can still do far better!  Why should we be satisfied with somebody who is only slightly better than our current forward line when we are Liverpool FC?  I'd like to see a bit more ambition than that.  Robbie Keane might be a good move - but I can't see them selling him after the season he's just had.

If you had to choose a striker in the Premiership who'll be moving on this summer - and you were any other club, you wouldn't take Defoe, you'd take Horse-face.  Unfortunetly that deal would be nearly impossible because of his ties to the scum.  If we must buy a Premiership player, lets at least investigate the rumours about a clause in Owen's contract letting him come to us first.  Anybody can see that Liverpool are flying again, and Michael will surely want to be a part of that.

If not, then look abroad - Defoe is English, and would cost far, far too much.  You can get better players than him for less if, and I really hope Rafa decides to take a big step, not a small one forward up front this summer.

That would be my line up for next year although I can't see us getting SWP. Replace him with Alves.

I would think somewhere between 35-40 contracted players is acceptable. 22,23 maximum 24 first team squad players. And 10-15 reserve players who are 21 or under and not ready for the first team squad. Looks like we have some work to do in terms of getting players out.

3. Steve Finnan
4. Sami Hyypia
5. Daniel Agger
6. John Arne Riise

9. Djibril Cisse
10. Luis Garcia
11. Robbie Fowler
12. Xabi Alonso
13. Peter Crouch
14. Dietmar Hamann
15. Fernando Morientes
16. Scott Carson -

All i can see being improved is an extra RW and striker that will be brought into the  swaud i dont see rafe having a great deal to spend
