Absolutely clueless :no

Watch the re-run of the away match against Juventus from last season and tell me that Alonso gets knocked off the ball too often and has no physical strength.  That performance was one of the best central midfield performances (in a defensive capacity) that I have ever seen.

Alonso is the complete midfield player.  He lacks a bit of pace but makes up for that with his positional play.

If he reminds you of Murphy then clearly you've never seen him play.

Your posts are a joke WW, stick to the rumour mill mate.

Everyone says he lacks pace, i disagree.

He's no natural athlete, but he's no Jan Molby either. He's quicker than the likes of Parker, Lampard, Barton, Fabregas and one or two others.

Alonso is not speedy gonzalez, but he's certainly not slower than Lampard.

There have been slower players around that played to a similar level.

Maybe we should sell Gerrard too, after all he did loose us the game yesterday - he's so cr@p, we'd be lucky to get £5M for him

Nah Stu he's certainly no Jan

I differentiate pace and acceleration though.  Alonso's quick enough off the mark when he needs to shift 5, 10, 15 yards, decent acceleration.  Good enough for the position he plays in.

If it's a straight sprint over longer distances though he's not the quickest.  It prevents him from making more runs into the box (because he knows he'll struggle to get back) and could be a slight problem he's trying to track back with someone quick (you'll rarely see him catch up with a player and dispossess them like Gerrard does so well when he's on form).

But on the whole, for the job he needs to do for us holding the midfield I don't think this is a particular problem.  As long as he has someone like Gerrard or Sissoko beside him to do the running he's fine.

Alonso & Gerrard can be the best midfield pairing in the world but that hasnt happened yet.
Looks like it aint gonna happen soon as Ballack is set to sign for Chelsea.......they give me a scare
Lampard & ballack in midfield who would win against Ballack anyway?
No matter how much hard we work its disheartening to know that Chelsea will go & buy a player who can just bring quality more than our 2-3 players combined.
If they get Ballack I cant see us winning the league next couple of seasons atleast, nor Man U or Arsenal.

Yeah, but you asked for it by starting a thread to be fair that the whole world or at least 98%+ are going to disagree with.  It's not jumping on a bandwagon.

The abuse isn't that bad anyway, people are just saying you are clueless.  You've got to admit they might have a little bit of a point judging by your threads and posts on this board.

I'm only saying what I see.  Hey, that sounded like Roy Walker on Catchphrase.

Tbh i dont think you deserved warnings for this thread, even if it is an utter joke.
Its your opinion, however clueless it is, opinions are what make forums and your not doing anything wrong if your opinion is different.
But in reply to you again questioning Alonso's ability to compete physically, i am really puzzled.
You say you have seen him play....well i have never seen Xabi outfought in a game, he gets stuck in and doesnt back out of a challenge, he is nowhere near the same type of player as Garcia or some of the other foreign players that struggle with that aspect of our game.
