For the second day in a row, the Daily Mirror are claiming Alonso may be off to Madrid in the summer.  Surely, we could not allow this to happen.

They reckon £11m will secure him...but they're wrong.  Realistically I reckon he's worth £15m because he's relatively young, he's got a couple of years left on his contract and is nearly the complete midfielder.  I hope he stays!

Barton not much of a replacement for him, as for Real i agree with ivor, Alonso is class and big part of future

Load of bollox. Xabi is basque and wont go to the Spanish version of Chelsea.
They can want him all they like, but he's staying at Liverpool with rafa he loves it here.

He's an absolutely essential player for us and I just don't see it happening. The guy seems happy here, and to be honest Real have nothing to offer but money - it's not like they're any kind of dominating force at the moment.

If he was the only Spaniard on our books, I'd be worried. But he's got a lot of countrymen working alongside him, which I'm sure helps a guy from overseas.

The fans love him, he's getting regular CL football, he's winning trophies, his place in the national side is nailed down...I really don't think we should get too concerned about these reports. I genuinely don't see Madrid as an attractive proposition for a footballer that wants to achieve something in their career - it's pretty much a haven for wannabe movie stars and big name has-beens. :p

He loves it here, and he is quality player, Real have money thats all, would he go from 1st Team winning trophies and the prospects we have or to Real where he will probably rotate with Graveson!!! I do not think so

Xabi is a sensible lad and enjoys life in Liverpool, like CGGY said he wouldn't 'sell out' and go to Real :;):

why?

Because he's in a team that allows him to reach fame already (1). Because if he stays in Liverpool, he can come back to Real Sociedad as a hero when he's 32. Because the atmosphere in Real Madrid dressroom is well known for him, and because the only option possible to happen that is by paying the free release clause, which I hope, it's astronomical

You can expect lot of rumours though, it's AS and Marca's ways. The tabloid in England also wants us unsettled. But they can feck off. Real Sociedad players are not mercenaries.

(1) In Spain is more difficult to reach the national squad if you play in a lower team. Example, Pernia, a great player that plays for Getafe. Liverpool though is a team of "cache", that's to say a big club
