Frank M ,Apparently they turned down an earlier offer of 10 million euros ,so cagey as ever we've upped it by another 5 million . :D
Smells of panicking buying on xmas eve before the shops shut !

In fairness I don't know the player but some members in here rate him and obviously so does Rafa . If he's as good as some seem to think then bring him in .,christ knows we need a player on the right who can actually go past people.

dont forget that last minute buys will attract top dollar from their respective teams and raffs isnt stupid for last minute panicking. i think in these situations he's even cooler. :bowdown

Well we're cutting it extremely fine here, and there's no doubt we need both a centre back and right winger.

However, I hope we don't make any panic buys we may regret later.  I'd much rather wait until January to get these players if the right ones aren't available now.

I've seen this simao play and he is good no doubt, but pretty greedy on the ball, plus he flopped at Barcelona didn't he?  Paying over 10mil seems a bit much...

Raul :D

Iv seen a fair bit of Simao - on his day he is the brightest player in Portugal. He is a free - kick specialist, has a lot of tricks and is a super winger. Some say he is a mature version of Ronaldo.

He really is class and will be a good signing - but 16m? (isnt that whats being talked about?)

I doubt they will sell him on cheap (if they sell)

16 million euro's is the quoted amount. Think that makes £10m roughly!! It's not like we don't have the money...

Benfica striker Simao Sabrosa is set to join Liverpool.

The Portuguese Football Federation have announced on their website, www.fpf.pt, they have given the Benfica forward authorisation to travel to Liverpool on Wednesday to undergo a medical.

The player will return to Portugal later in the evening to rejoin the national side as they prepare for Saturday's World Cup qualifying game against Luxembourg.

Simao, 25, joined Benfica in the summer of 2001 after a two-year spell at Barcelona.

Media reports in Portugal say a transfer fee in the region of 15million euros (£10million) was to be paid to Benfica for their captain.

The federation said in a statement on Wednesday: "The Benfica forward Simao

Sabrosa has been authorised to be temporarily absent from national team training to travel to Liverpool so he can undergo a medical. "The national team coach (Felipe Scolari) accepted the player's request and it's expected that the Portuguese international will return later this afternoon in time to begin training at 1730." mfl

Does anyone know how things are progressing with Daniel Bonera (CB) Also we were supposed to have signed that Danish youngster from Brondby.

Yeh. Totally agree we need a right winger. Just a bit worried about the price.
