Sorry about the formation, it came out a bit dodgy when I posted it: it's meant to be a 4-3-1-2, with Murphy just behind the forwards

I'd settle for......

                       Kirkland
    Finnan     Gallas     Hyypia     Carragher
      Malbranque    Gerrard     Ballack
                          Kewell

Malbranque's not a bad shout. Viduka could be ok for a short term fill in while we search out a top quality striker to play alongside and in the absence of Owen. Ballack must be vulnerable to bids but I'm not sure we'd pay the amount necessary to lure him away. Gallas is a pipedream mate, I know Chelski are looking to sign another central defender but Desailly and Terry would probably be behind Gallas in the pecking order. Not convinced about Larsson, no amount of SPL goals will convince me he is that good

That comes to £19m and I have to ask - are you Houllier in disguise? Two Unproven players at ridiculously high prices, only Viduka would be worth the price you suggest. I wouldn't pay more than £4m or £5m for Davies at a push, £5m for Dawson is way too much for a 1st division footballer who can't have much if any Premiership experience. Boumsong is reported to have signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rangers so I am relieved we won't be getting another French foreign legionnaire (for the time being)

Big All - you mention Stam in your ideal eleven for next season. Do you mean Lazio's Jaap Stam? If so, isn't he a bit of an unrealistic choice. Why would he want to give up regular Champions League football!

Jaap Stam has said he will NOT return to England.

People are kidding themselves if they think we can sign Michael Ballack. He has his problems at Bayern, but it is more likely that he would joing Juventus or AC Milan than crappy old Liverpool.

I know people are entitled to their opinions but why would people possibly pick Vladimir Smicer in an ideal Liverpool 11? Are you Gerard Houllier in disguise?

I disagree with Owzat when he says that Gallas is the top defender in the Chelsea pecking order. That might have been true last season when he was probably the best centre half in the Premiership but he almost left in the summer and since then John Terry has established himself as Ranieri's favourite defender. Gallas' form hasn't been good this year, and Chelsea are likely to sign a top continental or (likely) South American defender next summer. Gallas would be a perfect defdender for Liverpool, but if he came available Arsenal would probably fight us for him as Wenger said in the past that he fancies him.

Boumsong's agent says that the player will definitely join Rangers next year and has already signed a pre-contract agreement (although I thought that under UEFA rules you cannot sign a pre-contract agreement until January).

Malbranque is a class act.

My lineup would be:

Kirkland
Finnan
Candela
Gallas
Hyppia
Gerrard
Hamman
Malbranque
Owen
Larson/Viduka (not sure about Cisse and if the Pool were brave I'd get Anelka back!!  :)
Kewell

Subs: Russell Hoult, Le Tallec, Baros, Pongolle, Murphy, Walsh, Ostemembor, Riise, Carragher, Luzi.

Manager: Martin O' Neill.

I'd sell everybody else.

We need, in my opinion:

1. New left back.
2. New centre half.
3. New right side midfielder.
4. New centre forward.
5. New reserve keeper and sell Dudek.

Finnan         Terry         Hyypia      Carragher

Hargreaves          Gerrard                 Kewell

                   Van der vaart

                Owen      Morientes

Subs: Pongolle, Okocha, Hamman, Sutton, Luzi

Manager: M O'neill

Big summer spending spree, Okocha on a free, Sutton £2m, Hargreaves £5m, Van der vaart £10m, Terry £6m, Morientes (season long loan) and with MON in charge, he'd probably sign Bobo Balde as a squad player.

Sell: Heskey (any takers?), Riise, Biscan, Diouf, Smicer, Diao, Murphy.

Hopefully MON would mature Baros and Le Tallac into prem players over the season as we would would sell Owen at the end of the season. Improve Gerrards contract.

I strongly agree with the comments made by 'John Barnes' Granny' in terms of the fact we need more defenders. The first port of call for a football manager should be to 'work from the back' and our defence needs (a) cover and (b) more top-class players drafted into the back four. As much as I was delighted to see Kewell and Finnan arrive at Anfield over the summer, I knew that we was destined to have another dismal season because of the shambolic state of our rear-guard. At the moment our defence is almost as bad as it was in the Souness managerial days.
