Ranieri: Aimar wouldn't cut it in England

Valencia boss Claudio Ranieri says Pablo Aimar wouldn't be able to cut it in the Premier League because he's too lightweight.

Liverpool are keen on recruiting Aimar if Valencia make the player available at a sensible price. Ranieri however believes Rafa would be wasting his money.

The former Chelsea boss said: "Aimar could not play three games in one week because he weighs just 60 kilos. It is important to have players who are strong, who are ready to fight."

couldnt have put it better myself.
dunno why ranieri said that tho, makes no sense to just pi$$ off one of your top players. maybe he wants him to show what he can do and sell him in the summer?

no he hasn't. its only this season, since owen left, that he's been given any kind of run or recognition as main striker. he's always played bit-part roles before. and even now he's only recognised as main striker because cisse's done his leg in.

In Greece its sure tha Aimar will come to Anfield!!!!
At my opinion he is one of the best players in the world and ranieri needs therapy.
he is not very strong but was Croyf strong?
Ronaldinho is strong?
Robinho is strong?
Veron and Ortega are strong players but Aimar is the starter In Argentinas National team.
Am i wrong?

I think Ortega has retired now after he had that fallout with Fenerbahce and didnt want to play for the club again and they refused to release him, so I think he quit the game at 28 years old

i WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE RAFA FOR INCREACING THE STANDARD YET AGAIN.

IN ONLY 6MTHS OF BEING AT LIVERPOOL HE HAS US ALL SPECULATING ABOUT A DIFFERENT CALIBRE OF PLAYERS WE CAN ACTUALLY EXPECT US TO BE BIDDING FOR IN JANUARY AND TAKE A STEP BACK AND CONSIDER THE TYPE OF CONVERSATIONS WE CAN ALL LOOK FORWARD TO IN JUNE AND JULY.

PERSONALLY I THINK RAFA IS HERE FOR THE LONG HAUL AND HAS A VISION OF TAKING LIVERPOOL FORWARD ONE STEP AT A TIME AND FAIR ENOUGH IF A WORLD CLASS PLAYER BECOMES AVAILABLE AT A REASONABLE PRICE EARLIER IN THE EQUATION THEN HE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE.

I BELIEVE THE WORLD CLASS CB WE NEED WILL ARRIVE IN THE SUMMER(NO I DONT HAVE ANY IDEA WHO IT MIGHT BE)

JUST LOOK AND LISTEN TO STEVE G OVER THE LAST 3WEEKS HIS WHOLE OUTLOOK WHEN BEING INTERVIEWED HAS ALTERED TO THE POINT THAT I BELIEVE HE HAS MADE HIS MIND UP TO STAY AND RAFA HAS EARNED HIS RESPECT WHICH ECHOES WHAT WE HEAR FROM PEOPLE LIKE ALONSO AND GARCIA AND SUPPOSEDLY MORIENTES AND AIMAR AND THE LIKE, THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR RESPECT FOR RAFA AND HIS COACHING ABILITIES.

SO ROLL ON 2005 AND OH YEA IF AIMAR IS AVAILABLE SIGN HIM YESTERDAY.

John Barnes' Granny wrote:I agree Andy. I thought it was crazy two weeks ago when some people said we sign both players but from what I've heard, thats what the club is looking at.

if that happens Baros will be out the door by the end of the season.

That's what i was thinking. For some reason, I get the feeling Baros, for all his effort and his goals, his face just doesn't fit in our side. Benitez is very much a team ethic coach, and with Baros's ego and wanting to join Barca just as Rafa signs, i get the feeling he could be on the way out.

think also how Rafa picked his Valencia team: didn't he have Aimar playing behind tall, English-style centre forwards - Carew, then Mista? That suggests Morientes, with a split stiker and wide players.

i wouldn't go for both Anelka and Morientes. How will we keep those 2 and Baros happy, and then with Cisse coming back (hopefully)? The problem is though, top teams tend to have great strikers in depth, whereas you only really manage to keep 2 top-class centre backs at any one club. They have to play week in week out to get an understanding, and they're not usually rotated. This means most top teams have locked up the limited number of top-class CBs and they don't really have any spare, agitating for a move in the transfer window.

So yes, we need a top-drawer CB, but where are any available?

Cos of this, Rafa seems to be building from the front.
