He's a footballer, so you have to accept he isn't the sharpest tool in the box.   :D

You mean he´s not the brightest light on the christmas tree?

Have to say although it's only youtube and although it was only Brentford, he doesn't half look promising in that clip. Both physically and in the way he plays - his decision making, composure, range of passing with both feet, ability on the turn etc...- show a player mature beyond his years (I probably said the same about Lucas, mind  ). We live and learn though and it's interesting to compare the clips of Lucas in his time at Gremio to what we now know about him, and then compare to it with Shelvey's best bits and to what we might learn. Some aspects of a players game are in essence unchanging - Lucas was never a physically dominant player, he isn't now and in all likelihood he never will be, not in the Premier.  There were no signs that he had a broad range of passing it his time at Gremio and ditto with us.

In Shelvey's case, it's clear that he covers ground with ease and has the physique needed to cope with the demands of top-flight football. At just 18 it's hard not to draw that conclusion. The question then is whether he has the ability with the ball and by the looks of things we've signed a player whose passing, touch, control - his all round technique, is a key part of his game, and who doesn't specialise in one area (unlike Masch, Lucas, Aquilani). A bit of an all-rounder methinks.

Good post

I think the key word there is 'Mature'. That is what describes him best for his age.

Ive seen a bit more of him than just the youtube vid and it was more of the same good stuff.

This lad looks like an old pro you might see running about in the Conference North up at Workington or summat. Studs first challenges on full backs on a boggy pitch during a bleak mid winters night and all that. He looks like a proper footballer I will give him that but unfortunately its arrived for him about 20 years too soon  :;):  Lets hope he makes it where so many have failed.

tell you what, as i was watching that clip the grin on my face just got bigger and bigger and bigger. we've got this kid? fukkin great! glad no one else has.

he mentions in his interview that he's looking forward to having that extra little bit of time and space in the premiership. he doesn't need it judging by the number of ways he has for finding an extra half a yard for himself and his speed of thought and execution. this lad could be very, very good indeed.

Looks like great potential - without going overboard he reminded me of watching a young Gerrard in action . Got my fingers crossed for this lad .

Juan Lescano ... Anyone hear about this kid ?! Apparently he'd been training at Melwood for the last four months with the youth players.. Was supposed to sign a permanent deal before it fell through because he couldnt get a work permit..

STORY..

Meanwhile, Real have swooped to land Di Maria's countryman Juan Lescano after the youngster failed to secure a work permit at Liverpool.

The 17-year-old striker has penned a four-year contract in the Spanish capital and admits he cannot wait to join up with his new employers.

"At Liverpool people like (Javier) Mascherano and (Emiliano) Insua helped me a lot, but after the legal problems this is a big opportunity for me," said Lescano.

Real's scouting network has suggested that Lescano could be the 'new Didier Drogba' and they have high hopes for the talented teenager.

Feel sorry for the "new Drogba".  Real are the worst club at bringing up youngsters.

Same here dude, i've actually watched that clip back 3 times now. this kid looks like the genuine article. also agree with Nany/Benny when they say he has the looks of a young Gerrard in his running style and physicality.

It's been a good day to be a Red and I can't remember the last time I said that :D  :)

From the looks of it, he doesn't strike me as a playmaker who can unlock defences or play the odd killer pass, he looks like a box to box midfielder, can both defend and attack. His vision is no Alonso, but his first touch is fantastic and he reminds me of Stevie with his movement and running. He has excellent work rate and he reads the game well, big potential
