Liverpool's joy at reaching the Carling Cup Final has been tempered by a serious injury to Florent Sinama-Pongolle.
The young French striker damaged his cartilage shortly after coming on as a late substitute for Milan Baros in the 1-0 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

It is not yet known how long he will be ruled out for but Benitez said: "I will have to talk with the doctor but unfortunately we think it is a very bad injury.

"We have not had the best of luck with injuries of late and this is another blow. We will have to wait and see."

Wow this is getting out of hand.  Do you think the teams training regiment has anything to do with this?  I mean this is getting worse than unlucky, and when a new player gets injured every game we can't keep calling it bad luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

(i think i posted this on the wrong thread before sorry)

when are we going to get some luck on the injury front.
in the past other teams have steped down there work outs a few days before the games to see if that helps(it did not)
it hard to belive that its all down to bad luck , i know that you can not help things like broken bones but we should look at the pre match stuff to try and find out whats going wrong.

I dont think that training has much to do with injuries coz it all came because of bad tackles (Cisse,Alonso) or because a bad movement from players (Hyypia,Pongolle) so it is just bad luck .

yes but if they warm up right before the game they can avoid a lot of muscles injurys that are caused by over stretching or overextending muscles you can never stop the freek injurys

If this doesn't signal the return of Le Tallec or Diouf (or both), I don't know what will. We potentially only have Baros and Mellor as specialist strikers available for CL games.

And no, I'm not interested in seeing Garcia, Kewell or Smicer played up there. You can't f**k about with makeshifts in a competition like that.

Bad luck to Pongo. This season is really starting to beggar belief.

In the many years I've watched any professional sports, the injury list of the Liverpool team this year definitely is one of the worse I'd seen especially in terms of serious injuries to key players. On the other hand, it would be something really special if we can win some trophies based on the team we have left.

Its too bad Pongolle is injured because he starting to play really well. :(

I have to agree with Stu, warm up. Luis Garcia did the same thing, he was on for two minutes and got injured. You have to warm the f#ck up before you actually play, thats a basic in football.

Considering how many injuries we've have, 5th place is amazing in our circumstances.

We need a new player, midfielder or striker, whatever.

It's too bad that if we win the Carling cup everyone will say that it was all because of Gerrard, lookin at all the highlights it says Gerrard saves the day etc, etc and this was not the case today and hasn't been the past 4 games now.  Now getting back on topic, the only way I can see injuries going down is if referees start to call really strict games, and that wouldn't be any fun to watch.  Hopefully Rafa can just get through this season.
