Arguably the best way to see if your side has improved is to compare the corresponding fixtures of this season with last

2007/8

Sunderland (a) W2-0

Just three more goals making five extra points. Shame we couldn't score against Stoke, well more than the wrongly disallowed goal anyway. As key as improving on last season's results where points were dropped is to maintain the good results. So far only in the villa game have we gained less points than the corresponding fixture last season.

On the basis of the last 32 games in all competitions, of which we have won 23, we are winning just over 71% which would be more than the 27 wins out of 38 I have mentioned once or twice that could be enough to win the league

23/32 = 0.71875
27/38 = 0.710526

Still plenty to do, tougher games yet to come and all that. But in those 32 games we have played Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd disproportionate number of times :-

PREM Man Utd 3-0 Liverpool
CL Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
PREM Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
CL Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal
PREM Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool
CL Chelsea 3-2 Liverpool (aet)

PREM Liverpool 2-1 Man Utd

P7 W2 D3 L2 F11 A12. And only a couple of games prior to that run of 32 game Liverpool drew 0-0 at Stamford Bridge. Bar the 0-3 at Old Trafford that is a decent set of results, even then it was only 0-1 before the red card.

Yep still loads to do before we can even think about a title challange. If we are still within 4 points of whoever is top come xmas then we can start to believe but until then we just need to keep quiet and concentrate on only the next game.

thanks for the stats makes good reading

There is no doubt about it we have started strong it will be nice to keep more clean sheets but im sure will sort its self out,

Next week is a massive game if we want to make a true statement that we can go all the way we need to win, but a draw would be nice

but Chelsea are on fire at the moment, lets not get carried away and take one game at a time, but i really do think we have a chance of beating them and ending there run at home

I agree with that, we didnt loose many games last season but the amount of silly draws we played cost us at least a better position if not the league itself.

I have to say, I think it's Chelsea's year this year. They just look very strong. Liverpool have been very lucky to get where they are, but I can't see that luck holding out. As I said in another thread, I just can't see Chelsea losing 4 or 5 games this season, but on the other hand, I can see Liverpool losing out (or drawing) to weaker opposition eventually. There are some areas in Liverpool's game that are really flimsy.

But it's really too early to tell yet. If they're still second at Christmas, then I'll start shouting for a title.

Best start to the Premiership ever for Liverpool. Although we may not even win the league, less likely go unbeaten, it does equal the points tally and start of Arsenal from their unbeaten 2003/4 season which is noteworthy if not necessarily significant

It also equals the start Arsenal made in their unbeaten 03/04 title winning season (points only)

SIX of the teams we've played, their next game was a draw against Charlton while our's is Portsmouth so that would be SEVEN out of ten teams the same and if we beat pompey then we'd better their record.

So far Rafa has lost home and away to the champions-to-be, unless this changes that could spell trouble for Man Utd and Chelsea.

I think we can mount a serious challenge now... and im looking forwards to watching ti unfold. should be a cracking season. 3points on wednesday willl show me how far we have come, its the type of game we would of struggled with last year. fingers crossed we will be pushin chelski all the way
