The game: Liverpool vs Charlton, in a football match.

The place: The side of the Mersey, apparently.

The time: Saturday at 3 O'Clock, because Sky don't care about us.

Interesting facts

- Our opponents on Saturday are known commonly as "Charlton Athletics Club", though what hurdles and 400 metre relay races have to do with football is beyond Manhattan.

- Charlton is officially the capital of the United Kingdom.

- The club is supported by famous names such as Jim Davidson and Garry Bushell, both noted for their participation in the "Kick Racism Back Into Football" campaign.

- Charlton are known as "The Addicks" and last season tried to sign "Billy The Fish" from Viz Magazine.

- "Only Fools and Horses" character "Rodney" had "Charlton" as a middle name.

- "Only Fools and Horses" character "Del Boy" had "Total Network Solutions" as his middle name.

- Charlton's all-time highest win was a 1000-nil result against "South London Girls School" in 1957.

- Charlton's all-time highest defeat was a nil-1001 result against "South London Girls School" in 1957 in the second leg.

- Iain Dowie's niece plays for Charlton's ladies team. Thankfully she was adopted, so she doesn't look like her uncle.

- During Charlton's time at Selhurst Park, a forest and nature reserve flourished inside "The Valley" stadium and served as the home environment of several species previously undiscovered and unseen by human eyes.

- All the above species were killed by a big JCB when the club moved back to "The Valley".

- The club was formed by noted football players Jack and Bobby Charlton, and lesser noted weather presenter Suzanne Charlton.

- There is absolutely no connection whatsoever between Charlton Athletic FC and the city of Charleston, South Carolina.

- Former snooker legend Eddie Charlton died in 2004. He will be greatly missed.

Funny stuff Manhattan.

You know its never easy to pick the team that Rafa will start with. Someone else mentioned, he picks players, not purely on form, but to negate the oppositions players and/or tactics.

Well, In my opinion, no-one will get the starting line-up for this game correct. In fact, i'll offer a life time supply of umbungo to who-ever predicts the correct starting line-up.

Thanks for the information as I now know much more about Charlton now. Funny stuff I must say. In a more serious note, I think we will see more regulars than the last match but probably SG and other regulars will be subbed midway through. Will Arsenal tied for 3rd, we should be much more serious about this game.

with charlton already down, i expect us to finish the seaon with a bang. infact i'm looking for a demolition job like when we battered ipswich 5-0 on the last day of the season a few years back.

kewell to start and fowler to receive the sendoff he deserves, hopefully off the back of a goal.

Haha, wonderful sense of humor manhattan has.

I think we will win, we should win.

I expect Rafa to play some of the key players in the game, and mix it with young players

on a serious note i`d start with my team that i`d start in athens. (unless some players are carrying knocks like maybe reina)
i think that 11 would benefit from a decent run out together to iron out any glitches especially as a lot of our main players wont have played much football this month.
even after the charlton game there`s still a week and a half till the final and there`s a fine line between resting / protecting players and going into the game in athens ring rusty.
