Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

New season nearly upon us, and four very good signings added to the squad. What do you lot think is now our current best team? Obviously we now have nearly two players for every position and our manager can chop or change it how he sees fit, depending on the opposition etc.

I reckon :

             Alisson
Clyne.  Matip   VVD.   Robertson

         Keita.  Fabinho

             Shaqiri

  Salah.   Firmino.    Mane.

Subs: Sturridge, TAA, Lallana, Hendo, Wjnaldum, Moreno, Lovren. Migs.

Something like the above is what I think will win us a lot of matches this season.

Over to you.. :buttrock

............Karius
Clyne  Matip   Lovren   Moreno

         Wini  Hendo

             Lallana

  Ings   Sturridge    Solanke

Error ridden, unreliable, injury prone, should be enough to secure relegation  :rasp .......

Seriously speaking the first 11 picks itself, pretty much agree with the above posts except for Clyne at RB. TAA has done nothing but win me over.

Imagine Bobby playing in the hole tucked in behind those three ,plus it gives Shaquiri no place to hide  :D

Yes I opted for Clyne as now fit, Klopp may opt for him over TAA. I also picked Matip over lovren as he is slightly less error prone.
Would be good also if Firmino plays just behind the front three with Shaqiri up front.

That would be goals galore!

Same but I'd probably have Henderson in there instead of Fabinho.
I'm sure Fabinho will come good but right at this moment I'm not sure he is playing better than Hendo (who did well at the World Cup). Im not convinced by this idea of playing Shaquiri as a CF either, I'd leave Bobby up front and play Shaq in Coutinho's old position.

It will more than likely though be this...

             Alisson
TAA   Matip   VVD.   Robertson

         Keita.  Hendo

             Shaqiri

  Salah.   Firmino.    Mane.

As I can't see Klopp dropping Hendo as he is our captain.

That's the XI I'd start with, no doubt as the season progresses players will dip in and out of form and in and out of the side, last Christmas Joe Gomez was playing great but by the time May came around TAA was the one with the shirt. Simon started last season as our number 1 keeper now he's on the verge of leaving the club after spending 6 months on the bench. The same type of thing will no doubt happen this year as well.

What's nice about the team now in the balance.
We go 2/3-0 up and can now bring on Fabinho or Milner for Shaqiri and keep things tight - whilst still being a dominate threat up front.
Even play 5 at the back when things are really difficult.
I'm hoping we improve on the number of clean sheets this season.

If only Sturridge goes back to 90% of when he was at peak, I'd be tempted to go with this...

              Alisson
Clyne   Matip   VVD    Robertson

         Keita   Fabinho

             Firmino

  Salah    Sturridge     Mane

Given we've hit the wall big time the last 2 seasons I can see us rotating a lot anyway. Jurgen actually rotated quite a bit at the start of last season (remember the stick he got for starting Solanke in the derby?) but injuries to the likes of Lallana, Clyne etc plus Coutinho leaving left him with no other option but to run the likes of Mo, Bobby, Sadio etc into the ground.
There is a fine balance though, as Rafa found out if you rotate and drop points (especially against one of the lesser lights) you leave yourself open to criticism.

First game of the season team:

               Alisson
Clyne   Gomez   VVD   Robertson

         Wijnaldum  Fabinho

             Keita

  Salah   Firmino    Mane

Our best team when everyone is available:

                 Alisson
TAA   Matip   VVD   Robertson

         Wijnaldum  Fabinho

             Keita

  Salah   Firmino    Mane

Becker.
       TAA                 Lovren                   Van Dijk              Robertson.

                                            Fabinho.

                          Keita                            Shaquiri.

            Salah                        Firmino                     Mane.

Away from home at a few tricky grounds I would go with.

                                            Becker.

     Clyne                    Lovren               Van Dijk               Robertson.

                                     Fabinho    Henderson

                                               Keita.

             Salah                        Firmino                Mane.

With the new players I still expect us to adopt the same tactics and formations we have already been using. Hopefully its more than enough to lift something at the end of the season.

That's a good shout. I feel sturridge could be a valuable player for us for rotation purposes come the run in, in April /May, if Salah and Co are feeling a bit tired.
Remember last season? We had nothing left in the tank, at the end.

I don't think we should rotate too much in games, and keep our "core" players on the pitch. Just rotate in key areas like Bring Shaqiri on for Salah and Fabinho for Hendon, Sturridge for Firmino etc, to tighten up, say on 60 mins if we are 2/3/4 goals up.
