Of course it is still a blow when you lose your best player, but we are in a much better position to cope with it compared to last season. The purchase of Salah and having Mane, Firmino and Ox allows us to cope with losing couts. And the purchase of VVD and Keita will restore the spine that we didnt have for ages. The last two games we have been quite solid defensively, the 2 goals conceded to Spurs didnt reflect our defensive solidity in that game. Next season, we will be a much more balanced side and overall, the team should be better than when we had Coutinho.

Sorry mate I don't agree, imo we have taken a significant step backwards.
Yesterday until that second goal went in we were under real pressure and needed Karius to bale us out on at least a couple of occasions, if that lad would have scored that one-on-one we probably would have lost that game.
Selling your best player is not the way forward, not if you actually want to win things.

I agree that selling our best player is never the way forward. But the reality of our situation is that we WILL lose our best players. Because we are in no position to compete with the barcas, the cities and the real Madrids. We lost Owen, alonso, masherano, macca and these are long before Klopp. Credit must go to Klopp in going a long way to softening the blow. At the time we bought Salah, I was like why the F are we buying another AM. And then with Ox again. But if you look at it objectively, these transfers softened the blow. I'm not sure if Klopp knew that couts was already leaving, maybe he did. What you highlighted is something that happens when even Couts was in the team. It is not a direct result of couts leaving. I watched the Spurs match replay, we were pretty solid. They had alot of possession but we contained them. This never happened before VVD's arrival. Hopefully VVD will continue to grow his influence and next season the arrival of Keita will make our midfield more solid. I now wish that we could persuade Can to stay. He is looking more solid than any of our other CM's. Can Keita partnership would be quite decent. We are by no means the finished product yet, but our team is looking more balanced than last season...

That performance yesterday was the kind of win we have been crying out for all season ,composed at the back ,combative in midfield and enough glimpses of genius up front to ensure we put the game out of Southampton's reach. I think this game and the game against Spudz is the manager utilizing different tactics to neutralize opposing teams.

I mean just maybe this is the plan B that we all felt was required to neuter a certain opponents threat, I think we were incredibly unfortunate not to win against Spudz and thought albeit from the screamer from Wanyama we coped with Kane ,Son's and Ali's runs in behind our defense by pushing out in unison to throw them offside. In all honesty if it hadn't been for the bum chums  in black we would have had three points. As it is we're now only 2 points off second place and usurping those manc cuntz in the mix for runners up and we still have to play them at their yard  :buttrock

I think Van Dyke has sucked the panic out of our defense,we look far more composed and adept at carrying out a job at the back with him in the middle and Karius has against all odds started to evolve into a methodical German custodian, who knows maybe the manager will give Mane enough of a shaking to shrug off his current stupor and we will see him return to form with a vengeance. I actually believe in the next few weeks fans will openly admit that given the importance of this juncture in time we needed Van Dyke far more than we needed Coutinho.

Totally agree with all that Yakka. I’m very surprised that some fellow fans were pleased with that performance and Klopp’s tactics. We took full advantage of Southampton’s defensive frailties to score an impressive first goal. After that there was only one team that looked liked scoring for the next 35 minutes and that was Southampton. After we scored an excellent and well timed second goal Southampton basically through the towel in !! I certainly wouldn’t be happy to play like that every week but then maybe that’s just me.

It was a good win and crucial 3 points which keep us breathing behind mannures necks. The way things are going anyone from Us, Chelsea, Mannure and Spurs can finish 2-4th.
All we just have to do is keeping on getting the wins.

That "dud" has scored 20 goals and has 10 assists in all competitions so far.

There a clubs that have paid 20 to 30 million this season for players who haven't even got half those stats

Would hate to think what Algy thinks of them

I blame the owners for buying him !
