Was at it again tonight. Am getting better, and can keep going for longer now without it getting caught up. Managing to keep my feet lower too. But not as low as these guys.

I suffer from those badly. Like others have said, it's important you wear the right shoes. Next time you're in the bath, check your footprint when you get out to see what kind of footstrike you have. If you can only see a small thin band of water between your heel and toes, then you overpronate, so you'll need support. This is not the cure for shin splints, though. They are caused by a muscle imbalance in your lower leg. What you need to do is build the muscle up on the sides of your shin area. Before you run, sit down and bend your feet upwards, curling your toes up towards the direction of your knees. Hold for 2 seconds and then repeat. Do that for about five minutes to build strength there. You can then stretch the muscle in your shins by getting on your knees, then slowly lower yourself to sit while the bottom of your feet are pointing upwards, and the top of your feet are planted on the ground. Try and sit on the soles of your feet and hold it there for 30 seconds and then repeat once or twice.

I cant shake this injury off, last year it happened on my left foot, eventually got that fixed up and now its on the right foot. Ive been cycling alot lately to keep my fitness up and im enjoying it. Not as much as the running but still.

Im supposed to start training for Dublin on Monday and it dosent look good at all.

New physio and he seems to (fingers crossed) have me back to some sort of normal. Ive been out running about 7/8 Km in the last few days and so far so good. The foot seems to be holding up.

Now all we need to get rid of is all this rain and we will be sorted   :D

how do you guys do it? i do wish to pick up jogging but it's so boring and i also suffer from strains to my calves for the past 6 months which makes it almost impossible for me to run without feeling as though someone was pulling my bones out. i do continue to play football though. not seen the doc, just the occasional reflexologist treatment.

I always found running very boring but later on in life, when I was coming up to 40, I gave it a go again just doing about 1.5 mile 3 or 4 times a week. I just kept at it and building the distance steadily and the more you put in the easier and less boring it gets. This is because you find a natural running rythm and you breathe easy and arent gasping for air. After a time you can almost run forever at your own pace because it becomes a second nature like walking. First thing is really good running shoes to protect from injury, and supports if you suffer from niggles in a particular area. After almost 3 years I now run in events and that and love it. Aside from the fitness it keeps the weight off and I have shed about 2.5 stone easy and am leaner and fitter than I was in my 20s or 30s.Plus mentally you feel sharper and your moods better. Key is stick at it and remember the hardest running step is the first one out the front door  :;):  motivation, mental stength, is a big, if not the biggest challenge of all with running.

check out this website, it has a great intro section for people wanting to ease their way into jogging over a few weeks.

I used it and found it really helpful.

thanks mate. that's gonna require a lot of discipline but sounds decent.
