Last season he was promoted from the U18s to the U23s. I would say he’s still finding his feet a little with the U23 but he has loads of potential. He’s also had the chance to train with the first team so Klopp has worked with him. Hopefully he’ll do really well this year with the U23s and go on the pre-season tour next summer.

Rhian Brewster to be promoted to Liverpool first-team upon return from injury

Liverpool teenager Rhian Brewster will be promoted to the senior squad upon his return to fitness at the start of next season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp rates the 17-year-old so highly he has already informed the striker of his intentions, helping his morale as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle ligament injury that needed two operations.

Brewster’s recovery is being overseen at the first team HQ at Melwood rather than the Kirkby Academy, a symbolic gesture to recognise more senior status.

Surgery on his right ankle has prematurely ended Brewster’s campaign, a year in which he rose to prominence after firing England Under 17 World Cup glory.

These heights were followed by setbacks, racism claims against Spartak Moscow defender Leonid Mironov not supported by UEFA, citing lack of evidence, and then the injury ending his chances of playing again in this campaign.

Brewster is one of the host highly-rated young players in the country and Klopp has made it known to all the promising starlets in the youth system he will offer a pathway to first team opportunities should they continue their development.

Brewster is now set to join the first team when they begin their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, ahead of being integrated into matchday squads. It is anticipated he will be fit to train again by July.

The England youth international turns 18 at the start of next month, at which point he will be eligible to sign a new long-term deal with Liverpool.

Academy players are limited to three year contracts before their 18th birthday.

Earlier this season, another Liverpool youngster, Ben Woodburn, signed a five year contract shortly after his 18th birthday.

I think this was always on the cards. Solanke will probably go out on loan and Brewster will take his spot in the squad. He'll train full time with the first team squad but I'm sure he'll play for the U23s when he's not involved in match day squads. Just like Solanke does.

Woodburn is currently not getting first team action. What do you think the chances are of Brewster featuring in the first team anytime soon!? :eyebrow

Really disappointed if we do lose him as he could be a really top player in a few years but he obviously wants more than we are willing to offer. If he wants to go to Germany to develop his game then we could have loaned him there.

Besides did we not poach this lad ourselves to begin with ? We are no stranger to a tribunal or two either so we might pick up a few quid that way.  :lookaround

Germany have good form for developing youngsters. Jordan Sancho has went over there and done a job. Lookman and Leipzig too.

I'd rather we had a buy back clause or loaned him. I'm confident the move would be good for him but ideally he'd end up back here.

It does look like German clubs are starting to take advantage of the lack of pathway for talented English players and the frustration that comes with it. Personally I think Brewster would be mad to leave now. He’s making good progress, Klopp has made a personal effort to create a pathway for him, and he will be training full time with the first team from pre-season. Not bad for an 18 year old.
As he’s out of contract so he can leave for a non-UK club for a compensation fee of £250k with no buy back clause or sell on fee.

Looks like he's signing a long term contract with us and is going to be promoted to train full time with the first team. With the front 3 away at the world cup he should get some game time in what looks like a very busy pre-season assuming he has recovered from his ankle and knee injuries.
