Salah, van Dijk, Keita - the 'true' value of Liverpool's transfer targets

Liverpool should part with no more than £145million for their top three transfer targets this summer - according to one of Europe’s most respected football researchers.

The Reds had identified Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah as three prospective signings this summer.

While negotiations with Roma over Salah have stalled, it is expected Keita’s club, RB Leipzig, will ask for over £50million for the Guinean midfielder.

The Reds’ pursuit of van Dijk is well documented, with the club publicly pulling out of a deal following Southampton’s threats of reporting the club to the Premier League.

But with the Dutchman now rated at around £75million, it means Liverpool would have to part with around £165million to acquire the trio.

That, according to the CIES Football Observatory, would be too much, who total the threesome at approximately £143million.

The researchers have released their valuations of 110 players across the continent.

Their figures are founded on an algorithm, based on the thorough analysis of almost 2,000 paying fee transfers.

The variables through which transfer values are modelled notably include the performance of both players and their clubs, as well as international status, contract, age and position.

Salah is the most expensive target, with the Egyptian winger rated at nearly £60million.

If Salah was to join however, he would only be the third most valuable player at Anfield – with Roberto Firmino in Europe’s top 20 at £75.5million.

Compatriot Philippe Coutinho would cost teams £62.7million, according to the study, while Sadio Mane falls just below Salah at £57.1million.

Two more Liverpool stars are rated in the continent’s top 110, with Gini Wijnaldum (£44.2million) and Nathaniel Clyne (£37.3million) named.

Of other players Jurgen Klopp and his team are monitoring, Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe (£82million), Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa (£41.8million) and Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli (£36.3million) make the list.

Neymar is valued highest at £186.5million, while Tottenham duo Dele Alli and Harry Kane make up the top three, worth £137.3million and £136million respectively.

*******************

I know it is only a "think tank" but it is studies like these that the owners follow. Ace will love the fact that Firmino is our most valuable player at 75 million. Also Clyne, Mane and Wijnaldum have certainly increased in value so in the case of Wijnaldum and Mane, it should encourage the owners to trust Klopp. If you spend 150 million on a player and next year he is worth 300 million that 150 looks a steal. As for Van Dijk, 40 million seems more realistic!

A prominent research group in Switzerland has put together a list of "estimated transfer values" for the most expensive footballers in Europe – and there is no room for 32-year-old forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the top ten.

Football think tank CIES Football Observatory adopts a  "scientific approach" to its methodology, taking into consideration six factors when putting a price on the head Europe's top players.

The six factors are:

Player performance: The quality and consistency of their form
Player performance in relation to their club: Are they the star player?
International status: How established are they for their country?
Contract: Players with longer deals are more expensive
Age: Younger players command higher fees
Position: Goal scorers are more expensive than goalkeepers
Without further ado, here are the 25 most valuable footballers the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. They are ranked in ascending order.

25: Christian Eriksen, Tottenham Hotspur — €82.5 million (£73 million)

24: Edinson Cavani, Paris Saint-Germain — €82.8 million (£73.25 million)

what a load of old b0ll0x

Raheem Sterling at 15th while Mbappe, Sanchez and Augero are 18, 17 and 22 respectively?

Not a chance in real life that Stering is better/more value than either of those 3.

deli Ali and Harry Kane higher than Suarez and Messi?

Am I reading it wrong?

No you read it correctly and your right it is a load of bollix..
All a player is worth is what the buying club is willing to pay. All those stupid stat things do is complicate the game and that's why you see players like Sterling transferring for more money than Sanchez. His age, his potential, his nationality etc all stuff that has absolutely shyte to do with how he performs on the pitch. Sanchez is now a world beater while sterling hasn't progressed 1% since he left here.
The worst thing is that Clubs probably use that as some sort of bargaining tool when selling their players.
