Reports suggest that Liverpool have turned to former transfer target Kyriakos Papadopoulos in a bid to strengthen his their defence this summer.

The Greek international centre-back is currently playing at German side Bayern Leverkusen on a season-long loan from fellow Bundesliga club Schalke as he tries to put his injury problems behind him.

The Greek hasn't featured much over the last nine months, making just nine league starts. However, his performances have been impressive despite his limited game time.

Papadopoulos is still only 23 and with his contract expiring in the summer, the defender represents an option on a Bosman.

It has been claimed Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could be willing to take a gamble on his fitness despite his problems.

Rodgers is looking to strengthen his defensive options.

Papadopoulos has proved to be a sturdy defender and at only 23 years-of-age he has plenty of potential to improve further.

The Greek is certainly worth taking a gamble on, especially with him being available for free in the summer and Rodgers has expressed interest in the defender in the past and he might get him at last after a long wait for the defender.

If true (it is the Metro after all) has BR completely lost it ? surely Sturridge is enough of an example as to what can happen with injury prone players !

Don't know much about his greek fella but is he that much better than the much praised Illori (when we signed him) who was then shunted out on loan apparently never to be seen again .   :veryangry

This guy has only played 41 games in the last 3 seasons.  :no

In the 2 seasons before that he played 76 games!
"LIVERPOOL: 6 European Cups, 19 Domestic Titles, 3 UEFA Cups, 8 FA Cups, 9 League Cups and 4 European Super Cups and 1 Club World Championship

All other English clubs pale into insignificance!"

Kyriakos Papadopoulos turned just 23 back in February so at 6'00" and 13.5 stone,  4-5 seasons ago he was 18 years old and played 76 games in an aggressive role. He was too young and has knackered his joints, sorry but it's clear he was over played and is now paying the price. 5 million, 20 thou a week and free BUPA.

The start of the 2012–13 season went well for the bullish defender and he opened his season account in Schalke’s first home game of the season – a 3-1 victory over Augsburg. However, after a virus kept him out for a number of games, Papadopoulos was then forced to go under the knife in attempts to correct his knee injury which he picked up in a 3-1 loss away at Hamburg in November 2012.
After a very difficult year for the defender absent through injury (383 days to be exact), Papadopoulos returned to action, much to the satisfaction of both his national team coach Fernando Santos and his coach at Schalke, Jens Keller, by playing in a home game against SC Freiburg in December 2013.
Unfortunately, a few weeks after his return to action, Papadopoulos suffered a new shoulder injury and could have been forced to undergo surgery. The news came as another bitter blow, as his recurring knee problems restricted him to just four appearances of the 2013–14 season. The new injury caused him to miss the World Cup in Brazil.

On 3 November 2014, Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Kyriakos Papadopoulos has been ruled out for the remainder of 2014 with a shoulder injury. The centre-back suffered the injury in the final training session ahead of his side's Champions League match at Zenit St Petersburg, and is set to undergo surgery. "That's just bitter for Papa," Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt told reporters ahead of Leverkusen's trip to Russia. The 22-year-old, currently on a year-long loan from Schalke, only recently returned to action following nearly two years on the sidelines. Following his injury, the club announced that "Kyriakos Papadopoulos underwent successful surgery on Monday evening in Herne on his shoulder".

His performance during the season intrigued Liverpool's coach Brendan Rodgers.Papadopoulos, who has been watched by Reds scouts for the last two years, is currently on-loan at Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season. They want to make the deal permanent and have made a £4.4million offer, but reports say he would prefer to move to a new league, clearing the way for Liverpool to move in. Brendan Rodgers is believed to be lining up a move and with Papadopoulos now ready to change leagues, this transfer would be easy to complete. On March 8, 2015 he scored his first goal with the club in a Bundesliga match against Paderborn. Papadopoulos injury misery continues as on April 25, 2015 faces an indefinite spell on the sidelines after dislocating his right shoulder in a Bundesliga away match against 1. FC Köln. Bayer Leverkusen's officials reported that Papadopoulos will return to the training after three months.

LFC have looked at Patricio (again). However, this time, a particular agent has accused BR through TV  of causing disruptions to the player by BR talking to the Press.

hopes players will prioritise game time over money when he looks to off-load those who are surplus to requirements this summer.

Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert, Sebastian Coates, Luis Alberto and Jose Enrique are among those who the Reds will look to sell to swell their transfer kitty.

However, there are no guarantees that Liverpool will be able to move them on. Last summer Rodgers told Borini that he needed to leave in order to secure regular first-team football but he snubbed offers from Sunderland and QPR after the Reds had agreed a fee. The Italian striker stayed put and has only made five starts all season.

Rodgers will leave all members of his squad in no doubt about where they stand in his plans going forward. He knows some with lucrative contracts may not take his advice on board but will urge them to put their careers first.

“It’s the modern game. It’s how it is,” Rodgers said.

“It’s hard to leave a club like Liverpool. It is very difficult, that’s the reality of it. You have to respect that.

“It’s one where a player comes in and he signs his contract here for a duration of time.

“You also work to the notion that players will want to play. Most players work hard all week in training because of the game. And if they are not playing that obviously makes it difficult for them.

“If you haven’t been playing for a sustained period of time then of course it’s something you’ll look at. I’m sure as a player you want to be playing, no matter the greatness of the club or the size of the club. Ultimately, it’s about playing. I’m sure some will be looking to assess that over the summer.”

Rodgers is waiting on the fitness of Steven Gerrard ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Hull City. The captain was limping in the closing stages of Saturday’s draw at West Brom.

“We have to see how that is. I thought initially he was holding his knee but it was more a bit of cramp late on in the game,” he said.

Manchester United and Liverpool continue to monitor Radja Nainggolan contract situation at Roma.

The Belgian midfielder is currently at the centre of a part-ownership tug-of-war between Roma and Cagliari.

But the player's wage demands could prevent either side being able to keep hold of the 26-year-old in the long term.

Reports in Italy suggest that both United and Liverpool had scouts present to watch Nainggolan in action recently.

And both sides may look to pounce once the player's outright ownership has been determined, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Last month Nainggolan said: "Will I stay at Roma?

"At the moment there's a 50 per cent chance."However, I'm not worried as there's still time. Roma and Cagliari have to find an agreement.

"I'm 100 per cent focused on Roma, it's a great club, a great team and a beautiful city to live in."

Liverpool are interested in signing Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic in the summer, Goal understands.

Brendan Rodgers has bemoaned his side's lack of firepower this season and the club are keen to bolster their strikeforce early on in the transfer window.

Liverpool are understood to have stolen a march on Manchester United in the race to sign Dutch sensation Memphis Depay, but Rodgers is also weighing up a bid for Jovetic.

City would be open to selling Jovetic this summer but would prefer the 25-year-old to move to Serie A, where the former Fiorentina man has a number of suitors.

Goal understands Juventus made a move to take Jovetic on loan for the rest of the season in January with a view to a permanent transfer.

Inter have also expressed an interest in signing the Montenegrin, who is thought to be open to a reunion with former City boss Roberto Mancini, and the forward's agent has held initial discussions with the club over a potential move.

After an injury-hit first season in England, Jovetic has started nine games in the Premier League this campaign, making 17 top-flight appearances in total and scoring five goals.

Knowing the mental prowess of footballers I wouldn't read anything into that, he was probably looking for the delete key.

Liverpool will be hoping Arsenal seal a summer deal for Barcelona's Pedro, as it will open the door for the Reds to snap up Theo Walcott, according to reports.

The England international has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, with his current deal set to expire next year and no discussions having yet opened over new terms.

And according to the Express, Liverpool could find themselves in the driving seat to sign the 26-year-old, should the Gunners complete a deal for reported target Pedro.

The arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck last summer have reduced Walcott's playing time this term and he could drop further down the Emirates pecking order should Pedro become Arsene Wenger's latest acquisition.

Walcott to join Lambert, Borini, Balo and Sturridge, what are we, a Sally Army home or something?

He's not good enough by half. It wouldn't be step forward but another sideways step.

What a joke this is  :nod You work to the notion that players want to play  :glare:

If we ever turn out a top class player then it will be of the players own doing because this clown couldn't manage a pi$$ up in a brothel. They will cost him his job because they will sit those contracts out in the hope of outlasting the fraud. If any of them do go it will be undisclosed because we lost a fortune  :nod What does he expect like ? he brought them here treated them like shyte and barely gave them the chance but yet he expects them to move on because ts the right thing to do

He's always talking about the modern game like he knows what he is doing but like everything else its just all shyte  :help

Rodgers out  :nod

Like the llama he is a great fella to have if your hammering a team but when you need one of them to get stuck in and change a game it isn't going to happen.  :no
He'd definitely not what we need and not on top of sturridges ability to pick up every injury on the go and some.
