LOSING THE FAITH

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Some fans are easily pleased, but look,  in the 3 years BR has been here he has made a lot of promises to the Owners, he hasn't kept a single one of them:  LFC have no trophies, no EPL title(s), a complete and utter shambles of a CL stint, and wait for it, more than a quarter of a Billion pounds wasted away. No return on investment at all, and so many failed promises. So some who says that other clubs have more money then LFC doesn't wash....also, I don't care about other LFC managers of the past because that is the past, with BR, this is the here and now. He needs to go.  He has brought in the players that he wanted, the Committee that he is part of, have provided other names in the fray, but he turned them all down. So to replace one player, he brings in 6 or 7 which was totally not needed. He began a rebuilding programme because one player left, go figure....a rebuild was not required. The Owners have invested heavily and have taken on more debt to cover cost for the stadium expansion, hence naming rights to the stands will be offered.

BR promised the Owners challenge for the EPL and CL this season. The Owners have spent money it didn't actually have (taken on debt) to support him over the 3 seasons to achieve success on the field, to this end, BR has utterly and completely and utterly failed to deliver. So the question  is, how many more seasons to give BR and his so called "long term plan" (not that he has one), to allow it to come to magical conclusion?

LFC didn't need Lallana, Balo, the list goes on. BR is great at going to a candy store.

Seriously, whichever way you look at it, BR has totally failed at LFC. And one example, buying players like, Ilori, Alberto and Aspas etc,  who have not been seen in a LFC shirt, essentially, not playing those players for nigh on a year, then giving them their marching orders (i.e. loaning them), because no other club is willing to buy them is totally rubbish business and management on BR's part.

I won't mention any names because one thing leads to another, anyway, the £25m BR spent on Balo and Lambert, could have been spent on a far better and very good striker/forward. BR actually ignored/did not take into account the massive signing on fee and crazy agent fees for Balo.  But he didn't listen to the advice he was given, then panics and buys bottom of the heap rubbish.

BR could have brought Lovren the season before for much less but chose to wait a season (who knows why), then pays over the odds for him.

Another example, Pedro was a available, and LFC could have had him, but instead, BR chose Marko. LFC could have got Pedro for about the same price.
BR does not trust the youth. Regarding Ibe, you know, he was forced to play him. If it were up to BR, Ibe would have been moved on and replaced by 'potential' from spain or italy etc. The powers that be told him to start playing academy players as he promised. Ibe was sent on loan countless times, until BR was told this Jan that he would not get a striker unless he sold someone (due to FFP) and to make use of the players at the Acedemy. Hence,  Ibe is recalled by BR and put in the first team to prove a point, however, BR was told that Ibe was ready last summer and should be playing. Ibe was a first team player for Wycombe and BR held him back in his progression by loaning him out needlessly.

Flanno was going to be offloaded because BR didn't think he was good enough, only to bring him on becuase injuries to others forced him too. BR really doesn't have sound judgement.  The list of players from the academy he should be playing/bringing through is endless, but BR doesn't trust them so what chances do they have under him. Some may have had cameos, but that is it it, never to be heard of again.

Some that say that its hard to attract players for one reason or whatever, the thing is all clubs this issue!. THe fundamental thing here is that the invested money has been so very poorly spent by BR. This has given LFC FFP issues and major debt

Interesting read, I shudder to be reminded of how much dross we've signed since we last won the Premiership 25 years ago today.

Express on Line

Liverpool's wasted £770MILLION - the money squandered trying to bring the title to Anfield

When John Barnes dispatched a penalty beyond QPR’s David Seaman to help seal Liverpool’s 18th league title, the air was thick not only with celebration but complacency, too.

Anfield was not even full to witness a 2-1 victory for Kenny Dalglish’s side that proved enough to propel them to another title triumph as news of Aston Villa’s draw at home with Norwich filtered through.

As the ground emptied that Saturday afternoon on April 28, 1990, Liverpool’s supporters drifted home with a swagger that betrayed the sense they expected to be honouring their heroes next season... and the season after that. It is exactly 25 years today since that last triumph.

There has been a memorable Champions League success and UEFA Cup glory, FA Cup and League Cup baubles, but for an entire generation of fans the wait for the 19th title goes on, just as the money spent on trying to claim what has become the Holy Grail goes up. So far the figure stands at an incredible £770,340,000 lavished on 190 players, some of them youngsters but many others who were supposed to represent the final piece in a jigsaw that continues to be incomplete.

A hard-core of Liverpool supporters will boycott tonight’s Premier League match at Hull City in protest at rocketing ticket prices in the knowledge that the amount of money spent on players’ wages in that time will take the figure crashing through the £1billion barrier.

When the unwanted milestone was flagged up to Brendan Rodgers, the man charged with fulfilling owners Fenway Sports Group’s promise they would bring the title back to Anfield, all he could do was to say the right things.

Asked if he still believed he could end the drought, the Liverpool manager said: “Absolutely. When I came in here it was a long way off. The club was eighth and you’d never have even talked about it. It’s a mark of how the club has moved forward, that there’s such disappointment that we weren’t challenging this year. Of course it’s been disappointing not to have had a challenge this year. But I have absolutely no doubt it will happen.”

Liverpool came close under Roy Evans’ stewardship and, of course, last season under Rodgers, but the landscape has changed dramatically in the intervening years with Roman Abramovich’s billions transforming Chelsea’s fortunes and Manchester City turned into contenders by the money-flushed sheikhs of Abu Dhabi.

Arsenal, too, have been shunted aside in the sea-shift and, as Jose Mourinho revelled in pointing out on Sunday, their own wait to recapture former glories now stretches beyond a decade. Still, Chelsea’s success this season will come with Mourinho having carefully played the transfer market, spending less (£111.6m primarily on £27m Cesc Fabregas and £32m Diego Costa) than he recouped (£113m largely through £40m David Luiz and £28m Romelu Lukaku).

The transfer power of Liverpool’s rivals has to be factored in, the quality of the managers who followed Kenny Dalglish, too, but often it feels an easy excuse to deflect from Liverpool’s own excesses.

Liverpool’s time on the outside looking in has undoubtedly been prolonged by wrong turns in the transfer market. “It is difficult, but you can’t just accept that,” said Rodgers of the resources that his rivals boast.

“It’s something you have to continue to fight. Where we are at now is probably par for where we are at. We can’t accept that. We have to continue to find ways to develop players, work to the idea of how the owners want to work here and find that way to break that. That’s something that I’m very hungry to do.”

Rodgers conceded yesterday his own reign has, in some respects, come full circle with a lack of goals once again the over-riding problem that has seen Liverpool regress from runners-up to also-rans this term.

Rodgers – who will again be without Daniel Sturridge and must check on the fitness of Steven Gerrard at the KC Stadium when Liverpool will seek to close on fourth-placed Manchester United – believes strategic signings are needed this summer rather than a major overhaul.

“It’s small in terms of what we need, but it’s key to how we can function. If you look at our goals when I first came in here I talked about the need to improve the goal tally, and we did that.

“And now we’re back at the same situation again where I need to improve and we need to find a way to do that. If we can do that there’s a greater base there and foundation in the team. It will be a big summer for us to find the right type of player that can come in and do that.”

Alas, Liverpool have heard that sentiment all before.

Three that worked...

Luis Suarez: £22.8m from Ajax in 2011 – seldom could you take your eyes off Suarez and not simply because of the controversies that engulfed him. Sold for £75m.

Xabi Alonso: £10.5m from Real Sociedad in 2004 - was crucial in the team that pushed Manchester United close in 2009. Sold for £30m.

Sami Hyypia: £2.5m from Willem II in 1999 - proof that bargains have been available, he was signed after former Liverpool chief executive Peter Robinson was tipped off.

Three that didn’t...

Andy Carroll: £35m from Newcastle in 2011 – signed on the day Fernando Torres left for Chelsea. Injuries hampered him before Brendan Rodgers quickly ushered him out of the door.

Alberto Aquilani: £17.1m from AS Roma in 2009 - brought in to replace Xabi Alonso, injuries meant he was seldom seen before returning to Italy.

Christian Ziege: £5.5m from Middlesbrough in 2000 - Liverpool battled in the High Court to sign the German and were later fined £20,000 for an illegal approach. The defender did not prove worth the hassle.

He really does my head in. When he arrived we were a long way from winning the title but in only his second year we came second. Is he patting himself on the back there or not? I can't tell. Because this year, with no Suarez, the injury prone Sturridge and the unrequired Balo and Borini making up the numbers we've come nowhere near. So what progress are we actually looking at here? His ways of praising himself are becoming more and more cryptic by the day.

Never mind though lads, title challenge next season!

Tactically inept mate. The amount of sh!t that he spouts to the media is embarrassing.  He sounds to me like he's fearing for his job and this is a cry for "give me another 12 months".  Not only are we a million miles away in personnell but we are also a million miles away tactically.

You're right mate, and as you (I think) said elsewhere a lot of matches, such as those vs the top four, are tactical matches. Manager vs manager. Apparently BR was a tactical genius not so long ago. It shows, doesn't it? Villa, WBA, Arsenal, Man U to name a few recent ones.

Woof there's no point dragging up the past mate, you and I and many others had to live through every moment of every frustrating game in those long years.

What folks are correctly focusing on is the strategy LAST SUMMER when we knew we were losing Suarez, we had the money and we decided not to replace him preferring to buy 4x mediocre players. In a nutshell THAT was the key mistake and by not replacing GERRARD we stand to make the same mistake this summer. If so, then that will be BR's death knell as without a key play maker and central midfield player we will be found out and come in 8th - 10th next season.

They can still turn this round but to make top 4..... we need 4x top players, centre back, midfield, striker x2. Same as we were saying this time last season.

I've beeb pretty much Sunshine and Lollipops in my comments for this team since I joined this board.  Ithink it's been like 7 years.

Right now.  Those positive thoughts are gone.  We brought f*cking Rickie f*cking Lambert to try to change the game.our keeper was the man of the match in a game we lost.  Our engine room is fine...except it is missing an engine.

Glen f*cking Johnson is our Left back.

So disgusted right now.  I punched a hole in the wall after the match and then looked back at the tv screen and see players shaking hands and swapping shirts.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I actually think our season petering out with a whimper is a good thing. Maybe the penny will finally drop with the powers that be that we need to sign marquee players.
John Aldridge makes a good point into tonight's Echo, he said given Barcelona wanted to sign Suarez he wonders how the club didn't manage to get Sanchez in part-ex. As he said we held all the cards but managed to lose the hand.

John Aldridge makes a good point into tonight's Echo, he said given Barcelona wanted to sign Suarez he wonders how the club didn't manage to get Sanchez in part-ex. As he said we held all the cards but managed to lose the hand.

He wanted to go to Arsenal and Suarez wanted Barca. Not sure what we could have done in that situation.  End of the day can't hold a gun to a players head and make him join you. Only way I could see him joining us if we threw much more cash at him than Arsenal but obviously we don't have deep pockets like the Chelsea and Man City's of this world.

I think Aldo was saying we should have played hard ball with Barcelona and walked away from the deal.

Think that would have been very difficult to do in my opinion. Always felt Suarez signed his last contract with us with some agreement he would get his move to Barca and we were in effect protecting the value of an asset.

Unfortunately players and agents hold much more power these days and long gone are the days where clubs can dig their heels and keep hold of players, especially when the likes of Barca or Madrid come calling.

Obviously most of the players have skills. We know this because we have seen them at various times through the season, although not always together at the same time.
It looks like the manager has lost the players as there was nothing on that pitch tonight, no heart, no belief, no passion, no balls. I cant wait for the season to end now and hopefully when Gerrard, Balotelli, Johnson and Stirling are gone he will be able to mould his own team who believe in him.
At the moment they dont give a shiny sh'ite

FFS Aldo must has been reading my posts.

It is what I have been saying all along.

If Sanchez was keen on joining our main competitor then we should NOT have sold Suarez to Barcelona.

It's that f**king simple.

All other English clubs pale into insignificance!"

When I started this thread, I must admit I felt a bit guilty that I was putting the boot into the club I have loved since I could remember. In the back of my mind there was a little hope that things would change for the better before the end of the season.

Am afraid I was clutching at straws. after tonight's debacle any faith I have left has truly gone. So who's to blame for this? FSG, maybe but I remember when they bought us I was so happy because was were heading for total meltdown and possibly administration due to them 2 legalised gangsters, who I hope they both die a very slow and panics death KARMA.

So I think FSG after saving us, don't have a clue to how a English football club is run. They are partly to blame. Rodgers YES this Billy bulls.iter after getting lucky last season he thought he was untouchable. This season he has been found out and basically he is well out of his depth 22 million spent in the summer on WHAT?

The player's YES apart from Gerrard, Coutiniho and Sturridge are a bunch of overrated, overpaid useless b.astards. Something is seriously wrong when a 20 year old thinks he can hold the club to ransom after being offered 100k a week is taking the proverbial. If it was up to me I would put him in the Ressies until the summer and sell him to the highest bidder he won't be missed. The rest of them must have no self respect whatsoever. And the next time I hear "I was a boyhood LFC fan" bulls.hit I will scream. Shankly must be turning in his grave
