Liverpool are desperate to beat Manchester United to the signing of Memphis Depay.

And the Reds have been watching Depay every week in Holland, according to talkSPORT.

The Holland winger - who impressed during the World Cup - is on Louis van Gaal's radar.

The two worked together for the national team in Brazil where Depay scored twice as a substitute. But Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan told talkSPORT Liverpool want the 21-year-old.

He said: "People think Louis van Gaal will take him, but the fact that Liverpool scouts are in Eindhoven almost every week to watch the player signals to me that Liverpool are a strong contender for the boy."

Liverpool target Neto is also wanted by PSG and clubs in Spain as Brendan Rodgers faces stiff competition to land the Fiorentina goalkeeper, according to the Brazilian's agent Stefano Castagna.

The Reds were linked with a move for the 25-year-old, whose contract expires in June, earlier in the season when Simon Mignolet was dropped from the side.

A January move for Neto never materialised but the former Atletico Paranaense keeper looks certain to leave the Florence-based club in the summer.

It had been reported that Neto had a verbal agreement to join Serie A champions Juventus at the end of the season but his agent has revealed no decision about his future has been made yet.

And Castagna claims Neto will have his pick of top European clubs when the transfer window re-opens in the summer, including Brendan Rodgers' side.'

"There are many European clubs interested in Neto, such as for example Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain," Stefano Castagna is quoted as saying by Gazzetta TV.

"In Spain too there are clubs at the very top level who are tracking him. Real Madrid? We'll see.

"We have not made a definitive decision, but in any case he will not accept another loan move elsewhere."

Neto, who represented Brazil at the London 2012 Olympics but has not featured for the senior side, was warned against joining a club as a No 2 by national coach Dunga.

Neto joined Fiorentina from Atletico Paranaense in 2011 and established himself as No1 in the last two seasons.

Arsenal are poised to make a summer move for AC Milan star Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Italy international had offers in January and his agent admits he is likely to move on in the summer -  if the club are keen to sell.

The 22-year-old, however, will not be moving to another Italian team despite links to former club Genoa.

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keen on El Shaarawy.

"I've had some requests from abroad, even in January. But Stephan is at home with Milan and doesn't feel the need to leave," El Shaarawy's agent Manuel El Shaarawy told MilanNews.

"He has a good relationship with the fans, the club and his teammates.

"We'll see what happens in the summer though, it depends on whether the coach [Inzaghi] will stay, if there will be changes at boardroom level and especially what the club plans to do on the transfer market.

"If Milan were to tell us that Stephan needs to go elsewhere then we'd sit round the table and talk about it."

He added: "I can rule out a move within Italy this summer. There have also been rumours about Udinese and Torino in January, as well as the Rossoblu. All can be excluded as options.

"Stephan will not go to another Italian team."

Liverpool are leading the race to sign former Chelsea youngster Jacopo Sala.

The Reds have been tracking the former Italian U21 international in recent weeks and reports in Italy suggest they will make a firm offer this summer.

Sala, who has won rave reviews for his performances for Verona this season, can play in midfield or as a right-back and has also been watched by London rivals West Ham and Tottenham.

The 23-year-old spent four years at Stamford Bridge but never featured for the first team and moved to Hamburger SV before returning to Italy.

He is out of contract at the end of next season and it is understood Verona would prefer to cash in on him in the summer rather than risk him leaving on a free transfer in 12 months' time.

Liverpool monitoring Napoli's Higuain talks

The Serie A club are keen to tie the Argentina striker down to a more lucrative contract when talks resume at the end of April, but the Reds are waiting in the wings

EXCLUSIVE
By Marco Giordano

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, Goal understands.

Higuain, 27, has been linked with a move away from Italy at the end of the current season despite Napoli's desire to tie him down to a more lucrative contract.

With key clashes in Serie A, the Europa League and the Coppa Italia coming up in the next few weeks talks between the Italian club and their star forward have been shelved until the end of April.

But Higuain's father, who is also is agent, is due to sit down with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Riccardo Bigon, the sporting director, at the end of the month once the likelihood of Champions League football next season becomes clearer.

The Partenopei are willing to up the Argentine's basic salary and extend his current deal, which runs until 2018, by a further year.

But while Higuain and his camp have publicly maintained that he is happy at the San Paolo, it is expected that a summer move would be welcomed.

Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on proceedings and are expected to head up the queue should the former Real Madrid striker become available.

He has been linked with a move to Roma in the Italian press in recent weeks, while reports in both Italy and Spain this week have suggested that Barcelona are in the market for a 'Plan B' forward, and that Higuain fits the bill alongside Juventus striker Fernando Llorente.

Any move to Anfield would further complicate the future of Mario Balotelli, who moved back to England from AC Milan in the summer but has struggled to adapt to life under Brendan Rodgers this season.

The Reds boss has hinted on several occasions that Balotelli was not his first-choice signing and has publicly insisted that he improve his workrate and pressing of defenders if he is going to make it on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move back to Serie A since October when he was chastised for swapping shirts with Real Madrid's Pepe at half-time of their Champions League clash.

A hamstring injury at the end of November hampered his progress further, and by the time he had returned to fitness Rodgers had moved to the 3-4-3 formation which propelled the club into the race for a top-four finish.

Balotelli has appeared to struggle with the new system, although he may get another chance to nail down a starting berth given fresh concerns over Daniel Sturridge's fitness.

But tentative interest in Higuain highlights that Rodgers is moving ahead with his plans for next season, amid increasing uncertainty over Raheem Sterling's future, and Balotelli could also be cut adrift.

Liverpool are still hopeful of landing Villarreal's in-demand striker Luciano Vietto - despite the player revealing he wants to sign for Barcelona.

The Reds have been tracking the 21-year-old hotshot all season and will attempt to push through a deal this summer while the Nou Camp giants are under a transfer ban.

The Argentine has been in fine form in La Liga this term - bagging 12 goals in 26 appearances for The Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal would be reluctant sellers should Liverpool firm up their interest in Vietto and could demand as much as £24million for the player.

Liverpool are lining up a shock deal to sign Barcelona wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu at the end of the season.

Deulofeu, who is currently on-loan at Sevilla, is set to be sold in the summer when he returns to the Nou Camp.

And reports in Spain say Liverpool are keen on a deal, with Brendan Rodgers interested in bringing Deulofeu back to the Premier League.

Deulofeu enjoyed a spell with Everton previously and impressed, becoming a firm favourite at Goodison Park.

Paris Saint-Germain are lining up a move for Dynamo Kyiv forward Andriy Yarmolenko with Ezequiel Lavezzi set to move to Liverpool.

The Ligue 1 giants have reportedly targeted the 25-year-old as a possible replacement for Lavezzi.

PSG are understood to want to offload Lavezzi, 29, in the summer due to his high wages, with Liverpool his most likely destination.

Liverpool remain the most likely club to sign Danny Ings when the striker's contract at Burnley runs out at the end of this season - but the 22-year-old has already received some astronomical offers from clubs around Europe.

Relations between the two clubs remain very good with a will from both parties, despite the growing interest in Ings, to get a deal done even if it means going to a tribunal to set the compensation fee, which appears likely. And also appears set to be a record.

Clearly Ings's head may be turned by some of the huge amounts he is being offered by European clubs who can capitalise on an anomaly that gives them a significant and unfair advantage in negotiations.

If Ings joins a non-English club the compensation package is minimal - just €90,000 (£66,000) a season to Burnley for every season he spent at his current club.

Ings will have been at Turf Moor for three years, therefore Burnley would receive just €270,000 (£197,000).

To put that in context, David Moyes's Real Sociedad, who flew Ings out to Spain, are believed to have already offered him £60,000 a week plus a big signing-on fee. So, that means Ings would earn in less than a month what Burnley would receive for his sale.

Similarly, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke are tracking Ings closely and sent scouts to watch him play in England's U21 international against Germany at the Riverside last Monday.

Nevertheless Liverpool are hopeful that he will sign for them.

Liverpool and Manchester City are set to battle for Middlesbrough starlet Ben Gibson.

The England U21 international has come through Boro's academy system and is now a regular under Aitor Karanka, who has turned the club into promotion contenders.

The 19-year-old penned a new long-term deal in August, guaranteeing that Boro would get a sizeable fee.

Gibson is a life-long Boro fan, stemming from the fact his uncle is Boro chairman Steve Gibson.

He would be loathe to lose his nephew but with the FA pushing for new homegrown rules, Premier League clubs are on the lookout for the best English talent and Gibson is one of the country's emerging talents.

Gibson - who can play full-back as well as in central defence - could command a fee as high as £10million and it is understood that City have joined Liverpool will step up interest in the summer.

Liverpool are in talks with Manchester United reject Radamel Falcao as they prepare to sign the striker on loan next season.

The Reds are in the market for a new striker with Mario Balotelli failing to perform - and believe that Falcao is the perfect target.

Liverpool will have to fend off interest from Italian giants Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan if they are to land the Colombian's signature.

The three Italian clubs are also in talks with AS Monaco but none of the four clubs are willing to stump up the £36.5million fee that the principality club demand so a loan deal will be struck instead.

Though Monaco want to get rid of Falcao, he won't be coming to LFC (even on loan). His wages would be extremely damaging for LFC, and the club are not out of the woods yet with regards FFP. LFC are not even close to paying for someone like Falcao. The summer will still be a sell to buy policy largely because of the money wasted last summer.

He's spent a lot of time on the treatment table. Imo, not a good one for LFC and really not better than what LFC have already.

LIVERPOOL are monitoring Monaco's Geoffrey Kondogbia as a possible replacement for Steven Gerrard, according to reports.

Kondogbia has been linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United in recent times and now Liverpool have reportedly entered the race.

The 22-year-old snubbed interest from England to move to Sevilla in 2012.

But things did not work out for the youngster in Spain and he returned to France with Monaco one season later.

Kondogbia has helped guide the Principality outfit to the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season, and that has put him firmly on Liverpool's radar.

According to reports in France, Brendan Rodgers has had scouts watch Kondogbia on several occasions this season as he prepares for life without Gerrard.

Perry Groves has previously claimed that Kondogbia would be exactly what Arsenal need, saying: "There's a lad at Monaco called Geoffrey Kondogbia who is very similar to Patrick Vieira and he played at the Emirates Cup.

"Arsenal need someone who can help in the transition from defence to attack. It would take a lot of money to get him, but he's physically imposing and he would be the perfect buy."

Napoli could reportedly lose Gonzalo Higuain should they fail to make the Champions League, with Liverpool and Arsenal ready to swoop.

The Partenopei were defeated at Roma on Saturday, and are now eight points behind Lazio in the third and final Champions League spot.

According to Calciomercato, Rafa Benitez's men must now put everything into winning the Europa League, which also offers qualification for the competition, or Higuain could leave in the summer.

The Argentinian striker was known to be angry about not being in Europe's premier club competition this season, and it is unlikely the former Real Madrid man would accept another season without Champions League football.

The website reports that Arsenal and Liverpool in the English Premier League would be among the clubs interested, although Liverpool themselves face a struggle to make the Champions League.
