Liverpool are monitoring Theo Walcott’s latest contract wrangle with Arsenal as Raheem Sterling continues to stall on signing a new deal.
Walcott will have a year to run on his Arsenal contract in the summer and manager Arsène Wenger last week admitted that negotiations would not be easy.
The situation has been further complicated by the fact that Walcott, who wants a rise on his £100,000-a-week wages, has not started regularly for Arsenal since returning from injury.

Liverpool made an inquiry about Walcott before the England international signed his latest Arsenal contract in January 2013 and manager Brendan Rodgers remains a big admirer of the player.
Rodgers is being forced to consider his options in case Sterling does not sign a new deal after talks were shelved until the end of the season.

Like Sterling, Walcott can play on the wing or through the middle and has the same devastating pace as the 20-year-old.
Sterling’s Liverpool contract does not expire until 2017, but Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are watching developments. Chelsea and Manchester City are also likely to take a keen interest.

Liverpool’s interest in Walcott is not necessarily completely dependent on the future of Sterling, as doubts linger over whether Mario Balotelli will remain at Anfield past this season.
Walcott may well wait until the summer to assess his future after seeing how often he starts before the end of the season. The 26-year-old was visibly frustrated at not replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the FA Cup victory over Manchester United, but started the next game against West Ham and played 18 minutes as a substitute in Monaco.

Liverpool’s chances of landing Walcott may rest on whether they secure a top-four place, as it is unlikely the former Southampton youngster would want to give up Champions League football.
Fifth in the Premier League and three points behind Wenger’s men, Liverpool face Arsenal at the Emirates on April 4 after this weekend’s clash against Manchester United.

Walcott, who grew up a Liverpool fan, and Sterling have been named in England manager Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and friendly in Italy at the end of this month.
Sterling has been playing with a toe injury for Liverpool and is likely to be allowed to go back to his club after England’s game against Lithuania and miss the Italy trip unless it has fully cleared up.

I really hope we go no where near this lad  :no  I would rather give sterling what he wants rather than see the club give it to walcott. He is reportedly on about 90k at arsenal so will have to be on more than 100k here.
In my book we wouldn't be getting a better player and would be better off keeping Raheem to see how he develops because Walcott hit his ceiling years ago. His injury record is terrible and out of all these years in the prem he has only played 30+ games twice.

I wouldn't even take him over balotelli TBH, At least mario gives us something different if used right.

Liverpool have been given a boost by the agent of Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto, who has said his client could leave the Spanish club in the summer.

Vietto has enjoyed an incredible campaign for the La Liga side - scoring 20 goals in 39 matches - and has also attracted interest from Barcelona.

Reports in Spain claimed the Reds have made the 21-year-old a 'priority' signing in the summer and the Argentine's agent Jorge Cyterszpiler, who has previously confirmed Liverpool's interest, admits a move could be on the cards.

'He [Vietto] might leave in the summer. It is normal that the best clubs in the world are after him,' Cyterszpiler said.

'If big clubs make an offer, we need to talk. The offer must be very good, not only for us but also for Villarreal.'

Liverpool are ready to secure the signing of Benfica star Eduardo Salvio, that's according to reports in Portugal this week.

The Argentine winger has been in fine form for the Portuguese giants this term, notching 13 goals and five assists in 34 appearances.

Benfica would loathe to let him go but would have no option but to accept a bid should Liverpool meet the player's 60m Euro release clause.

In fact, Portuguese media report that Salvio will look to sign a new contract with the club in the coming months in order to lower that release clause and pave the way for a move to Anfield.

Another Argentine star, this time highly-rated Villarreal youngster Luciano Vietto, could be on his way to Anfield if reports if Italian media can be believed.

Tuttomercato report that the striker, who has notched 12 goals in 26 La Liga games, is one of Brendan Rodgers' top transfer targets this summer as he looks to bolster his forward line.

Vietto only joined Villarreal from his homeland in the summer, but such has been his impact in Spain that a whole host of top European clubs have been tipped to sign him.

Recently, the 21-year-old's agent, Jorge Cyterszpiler, confirmed that the striker could leave the Yellow Submarine in favour of a bigger club.

"He [Vietto] might leave in the summer. It is normal that the best clubs in the world are after him," Cyterszpiler said.

"If big clubs make an offer, we need to talk. The offer must be very good, not only for us but also for Villarreal."

Liverpool will be offered the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on loan this summer.

The Colombian striker has disappointed since his big-money loan to Old Trafford, netting just four times in United colours.

But rivals Liverpool will not make any decision on any potential move until their Champions League fate is determined.

Brendan Rodgers made a concerted effort to sign Falcao last year but the player was intent on joining Real Madrid.

Accepting they could not afford to wait, Liverpool pressed ahead with a gamble on Mario Balotelli which has since failed to pay off.

However, Falcao will return to Monaco at the end of the season and weigh up his options. He is keen to stay in the Premier League but has failed to convince on his showings for Louis van Gaal's side.

Rodgers wants forwards who can play a high pressing game with good energy levels and work ethic.

Divock Origi fits that bill and Burnley's Danny Ings remains at the forefront of his thinking too.

Falcao would be reluctant to have another season on the bench and is keen to go where he can play. Juventus and Valencia are leading the list of clubs interested so far.

Arsenal and Liverpool interest Luiz Adriano has revealed he is unlikely to remain in the Ukraine when his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk ends in December.

The Brazilian has scored five league goals from 15 appearances this season but he has hit an incredible nine in just seven Champions League matches.

Most of the Premier League's top sides have tracked Adriano at one time or another but he has remained loyal to Donetsk where he is club's all time record goal scorer.

"My plan is to respect the contract, which has not been renewed and will expire in December 2015," he said.

"I am in a good moment of my career and we'll do what will be best for me and for the club.

"With my contract set to expire and many good performances, it'll be difficult to stay in Ukraine."

Seven clubs are to make offers for Barcelona right back Dani Alves this summer.

Manchester United and Liverpool are among the clubs reported to be interested in signing the Brazil international, along with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and his current employers Barca.

Spanish newspaper Sport claim Louis van Gaal will not only offer Alves large wages, the Old Trafford manager is prepared to offer him a bonus for signing as a free agent.

The 31-year-old's contract expires at the Nou Camp in June 2015, and it seems Alves has his pick of the Barclays Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1 or La Liga before he retires.

Alves showed he can still perform at the top level against Manchester City in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga - both of which were televised.

Alves joined Barca in 2008 from Sevilla for £23million, rising to £30m, and has made 208 appearances in La Liga for the Catalan giants. His initial contract had a buyout clause of £66m.

Liverpool FC are favourites to sign Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, that's according to reports today.

The Greek centre back was a transfer target for Brendan Rodgers back in 2013, but the Reds failed to agree a deal with the German club and instead moved for Mamadou Sakho.

Papadopoulos is now on-loan at Bayer Leverkusen and, despite Leverkusen's desire to make the deal permanent, the Reds are said to be front-runners for his signature.

A bid of £4.4m has been made by Leverkusen, but Papadopoulos' desire to move abroad could ensure that he could be set to make the move to Anfield.

The 23-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout his career, making just four appearances last term and 11 league appearances for Leverkusen this year.

Reports in Spain indicate that Liverpool could be set to fight for Brazil right back Dani Alves when his contract at Barcelona expires in June.

The Reds are said to be interested in the player along with the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Inter Milan, PSG and Dortmund.

Alves is reportedly keen to stay at the Camp Nou but as of yet no new deal has been offered by Barcelona.

Alves was a target for Liverpool back in 2008 before he left Sevilla to join Barcelona. He has since won four Primera Division titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and the Champions League twice.

Liverpool have moved into pole position to sign Kyriakos Papadopoulos with the Schalke defender ready to move abroad.

Papadopoulos, who has been watched by Reds scouts for the last two years, is currently on-loan at Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season.

They want to make the deal permanent and have made a £4.4million offer, but reports say he would prefer to move to a new league, clearing the way for Liverpool to move in.

Brendan Rodgers is believed to be lining up a move and with Papadopoulos now ready to change leagues, this transfer would be easy to complete.

Annoyingly we could have had him for 12 million before he went to Barcalona but the club offered eight million and the deal was dead.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to hijack Arsenal's move for Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic by launching a transfer bid of their own.

The Inter Milan star has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, who hope to tempt him to the Emirates with the prospect of regular Champions League football.

The Gunners are far from the only club interested in Kovacic, though, and reports in Italy now suggest that Liverpool are also eager to add him to their ranks.

With manager Roberto Mancini looking for funds to rebuild his squad, Inter are resigned to losing some of their star names, but are thought to prefer the prospect of selling Kovacic than their sought-after striker Mauro Icardi.

The former Dinamo Zagreb man is also thought to be keen on a move to Anfield, but the Reds will likely have to ward off a number of competitors to secure his signature.

Liverpool eyeing Mateo Kovacic as Brendan Rodgers sends scouts to watch Inter Milan starlet

The Reds are also tracking Manchester City man Stevan Jovetic but are considering a £23million bid for 21-year-old Kovacic who has fallen out of favour at the San Siro

Liverpool will run the rule over Mateo Kovacic this weekend as they ramp up their interest in one of Europe's most exciting young talents.

The Reds will send scouts to watch the 20-year-old play for his country Croatia against Norway on Saturday, after compiling reports on his performances for Inter Milan in recent weeks.

And while Italian media suggestions that the English club has already agreed a £22million deal with Inter for the attacking midfielder are wide of the mark, Liverpool ARE keen on him, and are finalising their scouting reports before entering the race.

Inter have made it clear they are ready to sell the brilliant youngster they bought from Dinamo Zagreb just two years ago for around £12million.

The Italian giants are struggling under the weight of a financial crisis this season, and have no chance of even qualifying for the Europa League after a campaign of mid-table mediocrity.

Worse, they are also facing UEFA sanctions after falling foul of Financial Fair Play rules, and will not only be hit with a massive fine of around £7million, but will also be forced to reduce a deficit that has spiralled to a staggering £200million in the past three years.

That means some massive savings, and not only will they reduce salaries and cut transfer spending, but they will also be forced to sell off some of their crown jewels.

They want to keep exciting young striker Mauro Icardi, despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, but that means they are resigned to selling their next most valuable asset, Kovacic.

The Croat only signed a new contract in January, but since then Inter's European hopes have faded, and he has been consigned to the bench in recent months, starting just three of their last 10 games.

He has also been subbed in the rare starts he has been given, and the midfielder's advisors are now resigned to their client leaving in the summer.

Liverpool have made an attacking midfielder their number one priority in the summer, and Kovacic fits their profile perfectly.

Like Philippe Coutinho – who was also snatched from Inter – he is a young player with a huge reputation who has struggled for game time recently.

But they will have to pay, especially with Arsenal also interested. Inter have placed a €30m valuation on the player, which would equate to around £23million.

The Reds also want another striker in the summer, even with Belgium international Divock Origi arriving after his year long loan agreement with Lille.

They have been linked with Manchester City's out of favour Stevan Jovetic, but face competition from Roma, Juventus and AC Milan.

After being linked with Inter Milan's Mateo Kovacic, Liverpool appear set to continue their dalliance with Serie A as they eye Roma's Miralem Pjanic.

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is understood to have already met Roma's director of football Walter Sabatini to discuss the midfielder's future and will be buoyed by reports in Italy saying the 24-year-old is ready to end his four-year stay at the Olympic Stadium.

One sticking point for the Merseysiders, though, may be the transfer fee wanted by the Italians: £37million.

Reports in Spain are saying that Martín Montoya, the Barcelona defender, is ready to leave the Nou Camp with Liverpool the favourites to sign the 23-year-old.

After struggling to find first-team opportunities and having made just six starts this season, Montoya appears to have lost patience and could be joining Rodgers at Anfield next season.

Montoya has been on Rodgers's transfer radar for the past 18 months and the Northern Irishman is understood to be ready to make a bid for the Spaniard.

Oh great...let's announced it to the entire world so that the likes of City or Chelsea will just buy him up so we couldn't get him or wait for the typical last minute bid by Spurs or Arsenal and we ended up paying over the odds for the player. Slick bunch of businessman...

Yeah back in the dark days where most of our "prospects" ended up going somewhere because our the two yank jokers are only too happy to see us being linked to a bunch of players but making sure we don't get them by lowballing the selling clubs  :veryangry
