Liverpool could soon unleash a new forward pairing of Karim Benzema and Alexandre Lacazette if Brendan Rodgers has his way.

The Reds are looking for more firepower up front this month, following Daniel Sturridge's injury and now talks are underway with two targets.

It was reported earlier in the week that Rodgers was finalising a £38million bid to bring in Real Madrid's Karim Benzema, and joining the Frenchman on Merseyside could well be fellow countryman Lacazette.

The Lyon striker is one of Europe's leading marksmen this term, hitting 23 goals in as many appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit - and his exploits have not gone unnoticed.

According to the Daily Express secret talks with Liverpool are underway over a £25million transfer, although Arsenal are also in the race.

Aston Villa will sell Fabian Delph this month - but only if they get £4million.

Tottenham and Liverpool are keen on the England midfielder who is out of contract at the end of the season and has refused a new deal at Villa Park.

So despite their Premier League relegation battle, Villa are now ready to sell the player in the mid-season window in order to avoid Delph leaving on a free in the summer.

Spurs are not believed to be willing to meet Delph's £60,000-a-week wage demands but may revisit the possibility in the final days of the window, especially if they manage to off-load more players from their wage bill.

Liverpool, who see Delph as a potential replacement for Steven Gerrard, are more likely to come up with a sufficient wage deal but the player will keep his options as he is believed to fancy the prospect of a move to White Hart Lane.

Villa have strengthened their midfield with the signing of Carles Gil from Valencia and have reluctantly decided that Delph can go during the remaining ten days of the current window.

From The Mirror online

Raheem Sterling's contract talks with Liverpool stall after he rejects SECOND offer from club

The forward, who has been linked with Real Madrid and has two years left on his current deal, wants more than £100,000-a-week

Raheem Sterling's contract talks with Liverpool have stalled.

The England forward has rejected a second offer from the Reds to extend a deal that still has more than two years to run.

And that is a major embarrassment for the club after they promised to have Sterling’s future signed and sealed by the end of January to ease the pain of losing Steven Gerrard to the MLS.

Sterling rejected Liverpool’s opening offer last month after describing their bid to double his wages to £70,000 a week as unacceptable.

Their latest, improved offer has met with the same answer. It seems that Liverpool must now break through the £100,00-a-week barrier if they want to keep the 20-year-old happy.

Obviously the hype is filling his and his Agent's head.

When he learns how to finish off chances, then he can demand huge money. What is it with this kid ffs. Even Suarez wasn't on that kind of money before he signed his last contract with us AT THE AGE OF 26! After scoring  10 goals in a single month! Kids these days...  :no

Yep ,when he starts delivering on a consistent basis then he can start thinking of asking for such an amount.

We pay him what he asks - we cant afford to keep losing our best players because we dont want to pay high wages.

He is one of the top youngsters in European Football - Madrid would quite happily pay him well over £100 grand - because they know thats what is needed to get the better players

Liverpool are set to bring Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to Anfield on loan this month.

The German keeper moved to the Camp Nou from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer and is seen as the long-term successor to Victor Valdes - now at Manchester United - at the Catalan club.

But the 22-year-old has struggled to displace Claudio Bravo between the sticks at his new club and has openly talked about his dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time.

Earlier this week, Ter Stegen said: "For now, the manager counts on me for the Cup and Champions League, but I'd like to play in the league.

"I want La Liga, even if Bravo is doing a good job."

Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in another keeper to provide competition for Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones on Merseyside.

And while Barca won't countenance a permanent departure for Ter Stegen, reports in Spain suggest Liverpool are hopeful that the the Catalan outfit might be amenable to a short term deal.

Ter Stegen still features regularly for Luis Enrique in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and it remains to be seen whether Barca are genuinely willing to consider letting the German international leave before the end of the transfer window.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has told Liverpool to forget making a move for Bojan Krkic as the striker is not for sale.

Reports on Friday indicated the Reds were considering making an offer for the former Barcelona man after his impressive start to life at the Britannia Stadium.

Liverpool Brendan Rodgers is known to be in the market for a new forward and views the 24-year-old as a potentially cheaper option to Paris Saint-Germain striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

However, Hughes has told the Merseysiders to forget about trying to prise their star asset away from the club, claiming he has no interest in leaving, having only moved to Stoke last summer.

Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan produced a fabulous display at Anfield and his timing could barely have been better.

Liverpool are one of the clubs monitoring Bogdan's situation aware that he is out of contract at the end of the season and resisting Bolton's efforts to re-sign.

The 27-year-old Hungarian was making only his second appearance since August - Andy Lonergan has been preferred - and he responded with an array of brilliant saves to frustrate Liverpool and secure a lucrative replay for the Championship club.

He has now kept clean sheets in two FA Cup ties, which will alert more clubs to his availability on a free transfer in the summer.

Several Bundesliga teams have been on his trail, with scouts in the crowd at Anfield.

Bolton rejected a bid of £1.2million last summer from Mainz, who are still keen to sign Bogdan. Stuttgart and Hannover are also watching him, and there is interest from clubs in the Barclays Premier League although, after this season on the fringes at Bolton, he will not be keen on more time on the bench as a back-up goalkeeper.

Yep, totally agree. Though AV were pushing him on to anyone showing smallest amount of interest, and BR was interested.  It would have meant the likes of Rossiter never really getting an opportunity to play. Besides, FB is average at best and that is not what LFC need to move forward.

Sam Allardyce is desperate to keep Alex Song at West Ham but says the decision rests firmly with the player and they may have to wait until the end of the season.

Song has been a revelation for the east London club since arriving on a season-long loan from Barcelona and has played a major role in the team pushing for a European spot.

The former Arsenal midfielder is unlikely to make a return to the Nou Camp, but there will be no shortage of clubs wanting to sign him on a permanent basis, with Liverpool among those said to be monitoring his situation.

Allardyce is hoping that the club's move into the Olympic Stadium next year and a successful end to the season could persuade Song to pledge his long-term future to West Ham.

He said: "It depends on whether Alex wants to stay. We want him to stay and I certainly want him to stay. But that lies with the financial side and the chairman with the negotiations.

"Whether that is financially feasible is another matter and if other clubs of a greater size entice him away. It will depend on if he feels comfortable enough to further his career at West Ham based on what we have done this year.

"Performing the way we have done this year will of course help and if we can finish it off. There are many factors that have to be covered but if you ask me if I want him to stay - of course I do."

We should have been looking at this fella last summer. Think he'd be a great signing for us, can only hope we go in hard for him before he's snapped up by someone else.
