Liverpool are reportedly set to make a £50million bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as they look to solve their striker problems.

The Reds need to add more fire power to their ranks in the new year, with Brendan Rodgers' side struggling for goals this term.

And reports suggest Liverpool have decided to turn to Madrid ace Benzema to solve the goalscoring issues, with a £50million bid set to go in.

Madrid do not want to sell the Frenchman in January but it is hoped the giant offer could tempt them into doing business.

Liverpool have also been linked with the likes of Swansea striker Wilfried Bony and Porto ace Jackson Martinez.

Liverpool head the race for Aston Villa's England ace Fabian Delph.

They are considering a move for Delph, 25, who is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer.

Villa boss Paul Lambert may cash in on Delph and defender Ron Vlaar next month to prevent them walking on Bosmans in July.

Lambert has instructed Villa scouts to look for a new central midfielder, defender and striker.

Delph was Villa's player of the season last term and broke into the England team in earlier this season before dislocating his shoulder.

He is now fit again and team-mates reckon he is turning into an all-round box-to-box midfielder with surging runs reminiscent of Steven Gerrard in his pomp.

Delph's is also represented by Struan Marshall who is Gerrard's agent.

Marshall has close links with Anfield and previously took Stewart Downing from Villa to Liverpool in July 2011.

MirrorSport revealed in October Villa had tabled a new contract offer to Delph but the ace is keeping his options open.

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Argentine duo Sergio Romero and Paulo Dybala with talks said to be underway over a double deal.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been given the green light to add to his squad in the new year, with the club's owners set to make cash available.

And Sampdoria goalkeeper Romero looks like being the first one in, with reports in Italy saying a move is at an advanced stage.

The same report also says an approach has been made for Palermo striker Dybala, who was a target for Arsenal, and is rated at about £31million.

Liverpool are seemingly hoping to get both deals wrapped up in time for January.

Liverpool are set to join London giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk next month.

The struggling Anfield club are desperate for new players to revitalise a season that has gone horribly wrong.

And, although much of the focus has been on the lack of goals scored, there is also concern about the number being conceded.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is a certainty to splash the cash again when the transfer window opens.

There is speculation on Merseyside that Rodgers is keen on Van Dijk to help shore up his leaky defence, and the Liverpool manager knows a move for the Celt wouldn't break the bank by Premier League standards.

And a quick hit by Liverpool early in January could head off a bid from the Emirates, with reports in London last night linking the Gunners with a move for the Dutch star.

Spurs are also keen to land the 23-year-old, and it now seems inevitable that, with such Premier League interest, the defender will move on next month.

Juventus outcast Sebastian Giovinco is to evaluate his options when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Italian has found his first-team opportunities limited this term under new boss Massimiliano Allegri, starting just two matches in all competitions.

The 27-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and his agent - Andrea D'Amico - admits he'll look for a new club in January.

The Premier League is a likely destination for Giovinco, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all showing an interest in the diminutive forward.

"When he has played as a starter he always did really well, likewise in the national team, but then he went back to the bench at Juventus," D'Amico said.

"What more can you ask of a player that brings together experience, technique, class and creativity?

"The final word comes down to Allegri, but it's only normal that when a player has these qualities and sees himself rewarded in such small measure, he will feel angry within himself about his position.

"In any case his contract expires in 2015 and from the beginning of January he'll be free to evaluate other options for his future."

Liverpool and Tottenham have been alerted to the availability of Argentine star Gonzalo Higuain after claims he's not entirely content with life in Italy.

According to Italian sources, the emergence of Duvan Zapata has prompted Rafa Benitez to rotate his squad, with Higuain spending a little more time on the sidelines.

The 27-year-old was benched for the third time in the last four games in all competitions - and has increased speculation that Napoli will opt to cash-in on their coveted striker.

Jose Callejon's fantastic form on the wing has made him an indispensable member of Bentiez's side, leaving Higuain more attainable to potential suitors.

Benitez is clearly aware of the increased speculation surrounding his striker, and moved quickly to quash such talk.

He said: "Higuain is a fundamental player for us, but Duvan is doing so well that it makes it easier for me to rotate the squad.

"Can Higuain and Zapata play together? Yes, it's a possibility and we did that a few times during games, but it can be an option when starting too."

Both Tottenham and Liverpool are in the market for a forward capable of scoring 20 goals a season, and both have the financial muscle to make the deal happen.

Liverpool are struggling this season under Brendan Rodgers. They are already out of the Champions League and their current standings have them in the middle of table. As a manager, Rodgers gets the most of the blame but sloppy defense is also a big reason of Liverpool's recent streak of bad performances.

Liverpool's defense have cost them many points this season. New signing, Lovren, has been poor so far. Also players like Skrtel, Johnson, and Enrique  aren't having a good season. But at present, most of the critics and fans believe that their main problems is Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool signed Mignolet in 2013 by spending £9m for the Belgian from Sunderland with the hope to replace Pepe Reina. The Belgian's Liverpool career started wonderfully as he saved a late penalty shot and helped his new club to get a win on his debut. Most of the people were happy with his wonderful shot stopping quality. But day by day, his weaknesses started to cause Liverpool problems.

Despite knowing 5 languages, Mignolet doesn't communicate with his defenders properly on the field. He has positioning problems, been really poor in taking long range kicks and he doesn't come forward to catch balls during set pieces. Overall, he doesn't bring confidence in his defenders.

This season, Mignolet has failed to keep a single clean sheet in Champions League play and he has kept just 4 out of 15 possible clean sheets in Premiere League. Tony Barrett of The Times summed up Magnolet's play in a recent tweet by saying, "To be honest i have just grown tired of criticizing him(Mignolet). He's just dreadful." At present, Liverpool are very keen to bring a Goal Keeper in January as their 2nd choice Goal Keeper Brad Jones isn't good enough to start on a regular basis.

We have reliable sources that have informed us that Liverpool are set to make inquiries on Asmir Begovic for a possible move in January. But if that's not possible then Liverpool are willing to wait for him till next summer.

Asmir Begovic is a 27 years old Bosnian Goal Keeper who plays for Stoke City. Begovic joined Stoke in 2010 and till now he's doing a fine job for The Potters. He has a contract with Stoke until 2016.

Hmmm, I'm not sure this is going to happen! But if he was, can you imagine the pressure that would be placed on his young shoulders.  BR should have just paid the additional few million Euros in the first place instead of going for Balotelli or one of the other players.

Said that a while ago that bringing origi in in january would be a bad move due to the pressure he would be under to hit the ground straight away.
Rodgers talks about developing young lads but throws them to the dogs imo. The pressure that is already on sterling and coutinho's shoulders is massive and he could have alleviated this by spending his budgets better.
Sterling at 20 has hit 100 1st team games which is more than both ronaldo and messi had at the same age.

Liverpool are confident of pulling off a sensational coup for Real Madrid starlet Gareth Bale after sources close to the player confirmed he is
unsettled in the Spanish capital and keen to secure a move closer to his family home.

Our source, who is closely connected to the player through a family friend, confirmed 'Gareth has not settled in Madrid and is hopeful a deal
can be secured for a quick return to the Premier League and his good relationship with President Florentino Pérez could grease the wheels
for a move to Merseyside.

Its understood Ian Ayre has already flown to Madrid with a deal in the region of £100 million approved in principal by owner John W Henry
dashing the hopes of under fire boss Brendan Rodgers who had hoped to secure Swansea Citys flying winger Nathan Dyer, his preferred choice.

As always any deal is subject to the analysis of performance and IT expert Michael Fallows but the club is hopeful Bale will pass that test ahead
of Dyer, and Rodgers other choices, West Broms Saido Berahino and Crystal Palaces Yannick Bolasie.
