Liverpool 1 vs. Manchester City 3  August 25, 2014

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby kazza » Wed Aug 20, 2014 2:27 pm

Big match on Monday. I would like to see this team play

                                  Mignolet

Manquillo          Skrtel          Lovren             Moreno

Sterling      Hendo       Gerrard      Can          Markovic

                                  Sturridge

Obviously it is a 4-5-1 but it converts to a 4-3-3 when in attack.  I do not see City as "too" strong like the papers do and we could come away with points out of this. I think this team is more balanced than the one that played on Sunday.

What the hell are you doing lad, isn't it Lee's job to start match threads?

Anyways, I like your team only I'd start with Coutinho instead of Markovic. Since it's his first game, I'd rather we used him as an impact sub. Not the best game to start for Moreno either but we don't have much choice.

Starting a match thread? Pressure's on you now Kaz  :D

I don't think Brendan will go to the Etihad with 2 fullbacks who have just got 1 prem appearance between them. He might of played both if we were up against someone like Stoke or Newcastle but I'm not sure he'll do that away at City. He may play Johnson just because of his experience.
Side I'd like us to play -

                                                Mingolet

  Manquillo                 Skrtel                     Lovren                  Moreno

                           Henderson                     Can/Allen

Sterling                               Coutinho                                Markovic

                                            Sturridge

Side I think he'll play -

                                            Mingolet

  Johnson                 Skrtel                  Lovren                    Moreno

                                             Gerrard

                       Henderson                           Can

                                           Coutinho

                                Sterling
                                                     Sturridge.

Away at Man City, a point would be superb.

We can give anyone a game on our day but we are not a team that draws so it will either be an anticipated defeat
or glorious victory at the Etihad.

Rather have a right pop and let the cards fall as they may, and I suspect Rodgers will do exactly that and this is why
we love him and his Liverpool team.

A point away at City would be a good result, we lost away to the other 3 teams who finished in the top 4 last season which wasn't great, we could really do with getting something out of those games.
Even if it's just a point, it stops them getting 3

The team you would like to see (ie Coutinho sitting in front of Can and Hendo at the expence of Gerrard) is also how I would like it but I think that is unlikely to happen so I did not put it. Gerrard's experience may be important also and we are not playing Chelsea who Gerrard has never played well against.

Won't happen, even if he was available.

Spurs however is another story.

I could see him making the bench, but you're correct when you say he won't start. I'm not even sure if he's match fit, due to the late start of the Italian season

Get Balotelli sorted, off the bench, scores the winner, sorted
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Without even seeing Moreno I'd play him from the start and think Manquillo did more than enough to keep his place in the side.
However I agree Johnson will probably play right back due to his experience, he shouldnt though.

In the middle one of Can or Allen will almost certainy come in for Lucas.
I like Allen but think against these with Toure being a unit and Fernando being able to put himself about, Can would be a better option.
Added to that you get his height defending set pieces as these have a pretty big side.
I wouldnt be starting Markovic after the lad has plated only 45 minutes of pre season football. Get him on last half hour as an impact sub.

My team would be

                                           Mignolet

Manquillo                Skrtel                      Lovren               Moreno

                                          Gerrard

                                Can                 Henderson

                           Coutinho                    Sterling

                                           Sturridge

as bad as glenda is i wouldnt drop her for an away game at city in favour of manquillo.  markovic if he starts, moreno and can are enough debutants in the one high profile fixture.
even though manquillo did ok against the saints he isnt starter material against a side like city.
monday night football isnt usually our strong point

Obviously you wouldn't play a formation like this against City but i would mind seeing this in a cup game or something.

We'd win 13-12

I'd actually like that against a lesser club as long as we don't concede first.
