Sounds imminent. Ayre is over there now trying to conclude both deals apparently.

he obviously isn't the type to say nothing and we cant blame the lad for being a wee bit bitter now can we  :no
your right he did fail here but in fairness he should have never been brought through the door in the first place.

Borussia Dortmund are apparently in talks with Liverpool to take Tiago Ilori on loan.

Man f*ck him, he's a Sh*t player and he has no one else to blame but himself for failing here. I agree that he should have never even been brought here but that's no reason to talk Sh*t about the club like that. In fact, we actually gave him a chance to prove himself in a big club, he should be thankful to us.

Anyways, good news about Moreno. Not too sure what to think about Manquillo though. Don't think we need him to be honest.

Might be a good move for him that, he'll not only be playing at a club competing for honours in Germany but a club in the CL as well. More importantly by the time he returns to us next year he will have had experience of playing in two of Europe's big 4 league's.
He's a tremendous talent but 21 is still very young to be starting week in week out in a physical league like the prem, a year in Germany will be a good stepping stone.

I agree mate, time to see his potential come to fruition ,and the Bundesliga seems the ideal place for that to evolve ,just hope the deal is not inclusive
of an option to buy .

It would be a good move if he plays regularly, which he won't. Hummels and Subotic are definitely ahead of him. They have Papastopulous(sp?) as well and there's also this young lad Ginter they just signed from Freiburg, a player that was part of Germany's team in the World Cup, so he's a real prospect. Doubt that Ilori will be picked ahead of any of these. I rather we just kept him with us, let him fight for his place and see what happens.

Assuming Agger and Toure leave, we'll have Ilori and Coates fighting for third choice CB.

Seems odd Dortmund wanting to take him on loan when they have that much depth at centre half, maybe one or two of them have their eye on the exit door, wasn't Hummels linked with a move to United?

I think that Dortmund only want him as an insurance so they aren't forced to play with Kehl as a makeshift CB again, since Hummels might leave and Subotic just spent an entire season injured. But even if the worst happens for them (Hummels leaves, Subotic doesn't recover well), Ilori will still serve only as back up because I think that the Greek and Ginter will be picked ahead of him. I really rather we kept him, he'll get similar amount of game-time with us.

:nod

If he was going to get significant first team action I wouldn't object to a loan move but if he's going spend most of the time just warming a bench I'd rather he did that here, by staying with us he'd at least be under BR's tutelage and also bonding more with the current squad and the club overall.

Manchester United's Mats Hummels transfer could be on.. if Liverpool lend a hand

Jul 31, 2014 22:30
By Alan Nixon

Van Gaal's been eyeing the Borussia Dortmund defender for months and now the Germans have approached the Kop about his potential replacement

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Germany World Cup winner Mats Hummels - with help from arch-rivals Liverpool.

Louis van Gaal’s chase for Borussia Dortmund centre-half Hummels was back on late Thursday evening with the two clubs near to agreement on a £20million switch.

And the Old Trafford giants’ chances have been massively boosted as the Bundesliga side opened talks with Liverpool about borrowing their young Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori.

The 21-year-old would be loaned to Dortmund for the season as Hummels’ replacement - a move that the Reds' manager Brendan Rodgers would allow.

Ilori was signed from Sporting Lisbon a year ago and loaned out to Spanish side Granada for experience in January. But he made only nine starts for them, and is still just short of being a first-team starter.

Liverpool would be happy to see him play in the fast, physical Bundesliga - even if it means old foes United benefit in the short term.

The fact that Dortmund have begun work on a replacement for Hummels is a major lift for United, who badly need a senior defender and have been chasing the 25-year-old for months.

Dortmund traditionally only allow one big-name player to leave each season and striker Robert Lewandowski has already moved to Bayern Munich, but United are chasing hard.

Van Gaal has admired Hummels for years. The coach admits his squad needs brains at the back and he would be ideal for his needs.

United have the cash available to close the transfer and this breakthrough is a decisive turn for better as their new manager puts a new side - and formation - together.

Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and Atletico Madrid right-back Javi Manquillo

If we pull these deals off then we have strengthened the team. Come on LFC lets get this done!

You just know what the answer would be if Ferguson was in Rodgers position.

I think the Manquillo transfer would pretty much mean that Rodgers is trusting Johnson for the right back spot which isnt great news but somewhat understandable. To be honest I dont think Manquillo is even ahead of Flanagan in his development so hes not a solution to our RB problem by any means (at least not for the first year).

Regardless, the Moreno deal could prove to be a good one but I still think that we need a top attacking player and perhaps a top central midfielder capable of gradually replacing Gerrard.

We should be looking at selling all of Reina (wont be getting a chance under Rodgers despite arguably being our best GK), Kelly, Toure, Agger, Lucas, Assaidi, and borini. Between them they would generate 40+ mill that might hopefully go towards one or two top targets.
