I think the club have resigned themselves to the fact that he's staying, if he was on the verge of a permanent move I couldn't see the club A) taking him to the States and B) giving him so much game time (in case he got injured and jeopardised the £14m deal)
I think he may be prepared to go out on loan again to get games but I don't think he'll move anywhere permanently that he considers a big step backwards, certainly not to a relegation threatened team. I think our best bet is selling him back to Roma or AC Milan or Juventus or somewhere like that, I think he'd accept that.

Yeah,playing him against Roma certainly quelled the prospect of us receiving a more than generous fee for the lad ,probably be snapped up by an Italian team on a
loan basis....I just hope he can be cajoled into reviving the Sunderland move ,however unlikely that now seems.

SUNDERLAND have held talks with Fabio Borini, although the Liverpool frontman’s future is being held up by his shoulder injury.

It is approaching a fortnight since Sunderland had a £14million bid accepted by Liverpool for former loanee Borini, who returned early to the UK from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America at the weekend for treatment on a shoulder problem.

Gus Poyet watched his words carefully when asked about Borini here in Portugal last night.

But the Sunderland boss confirmed that the club have now held discussions with Borini himself and indicated that the Black Cats are still hopeful of signing the 23-year-old.

Poyet said: “He is being assessed now for his shoulder injury. That’s stopped everything a little bit.

“We will see. I have not held talks with him, but the club has, although that’s private.

“We know where we stand.”

While Poyet is maintaining faith that Sunderland can sign Borini, it seems to be the case that the Black Cats’ interest in fellow ex-loanee Marcos Alonso has lessened significantly since the signing of left-back Patrick van Aanholt.

Alonso has been Sunderland’s main target to fill the problematic left-back void throughout the summer, but with Fiorentina holding out for more money for the Spaniard, the Black Cats turned their attentions to ex-Chelsea man van Aanholt.

Sunderland’s focus now is on signing a versatile full-back, rather than another specialist left-back.

“If you asked me before pre-season started, if I wanted two left footed left-backs, I would have said no,” said Poyet.

“Now if Alonso becomes on loan for free then we would probably take him. We need another full-back, the idea is one who can play right and left or with Billy (Jones) covering.”

On van Aanholt, he added: “It’s easy to bring in players who you know personally and you know what you are going to get.

“Patrick needs to get used to plenty of things that we do, nothing difficult but he needs to get used to it.

“But I am so happy to have him here.”

why is he still with us ? the longer he continues to be disrespectful to sunderland the more likely it is that they will move on and we will be stuck with him.
set him straight and on his way before he ends up here another season doing absolutely nothing except making up numbers.

Rodgers had no problem kicking out a lot higher profiles, don't see why Borini should be a problem. "Fabio, you're not in my plans lad, there's the door". We can't miss that kind of money for this guy!

He's under no obligation to leave and he may well be looking at how thin our attacking options are and thinking to himself 'one or two injuries here and I may not only get a look in but I could be the number 1 striker at the club'.
I don't think Fabio will sign for a club where there's a good chance that he might be playing in the championship in 12 months time. If we wanted to off load him we should have been notifying top Italian clubs that we are willing to listen to offers months ago.

imagine him as our only option 
roma didnt kick up to much of a fuss when we signed him so i doubt any top club will be battering the door down for the lad anytime soon.
damjan was right in that rodgers has no bother taking the hard line with higher profile players so he should sit him down and tell it straight, unless this is another bizarre motivational tactic, ala hendo.

Yeah that was a fair point by Damjan, the likes of Carroll, Aquilani and even Reina were all shown the door in no uncertain terms but being under contract they did all have the option to stay and fight for their place if they so wished.

i wouldn't mind if he stayed myself. i think that most of the feeling against him is from worries about him being the only second choice striker option. the truth is that he's not a bad player, not good enough to be in our starting 11 but good enough to fill in as a 3rd or 4th choice as a quicker alternative to lambert. we're going to get another top striker in this month, i'm certain of that, so fabio can keep on keeping on and score the odd goal in the league or keep a threat up front when we're already 3 up and sturridge needs a rest.

He's absolutely awful.

Sunderland are mugs, he knows his limits, no question. He wouldn't improve a league 1 side, what he's doing at Liverpool only Rodgers can answer...

I would perfer the 14 million and a different replacement found but have no annymosity towards the player. Not sure why some on here are so angry with him for showing a fighting spirit. As you said, he'll score the odd important goal but not good enough to start. My issue with him is he fluffs to many chances and if we are playing in a match where we do not get too many chances (say against Chelsea) obviously that will hurt the whole team.

playing him will hurt the whole team 
looking at the bench towards the end of last season with aspas and moses sat there was gut wrenching because you knew it was pointless bringing them on because they are way out of their depth and never going to turn the game. borini is of the same ilk and should be shown the door like the other 2. he wont tackle or get stuck in and is just far too windy to be in a side trying to win premier leagues.
he's had 3 big enough injuries since been here and i dont think there was a proper challenge in any of them. the one that did him this year was a joke, he fell over the player and landed on his shoulder. he didnt even try and continue and just wanted to come off rather than stay on the field and put up a fooking fight for his career in a red jersey.
if he wasnt a rodgers signing he'd have been out long ago and now that we accepted an offer for him i dont see what the hold up is

He improved the Sunderland side.

I would say low-to-mid table premiership level is his cap.

Gus Poyet just confirmed, live on @SiriusXMFC (local radio) in the US, that Sunderland are in the stages of "Finalizing the Fabio Borini situation."
