Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Remember he played hard ball with Suarez by banning him to train alone when his behaviour was unacceptable so it was not through weakness that he made him happy, rather through respect and the strength of his convictions.[/quote]

Yep he built the foundations of this season right there. Took a lot of guts to handle Suarez the way he did knowing it could backfire and destroy the team unity.

Arsene Wenger in the same situation would have opened the door for him and carried his bags to the next destination.

I have to say I was sceptical of Rodgers when he signed for us and would have gone with Martinez.

Luckily, Fenway Sports didn't and we now have a truly remarkable boss who has some average players giving World class performances. Who'd have thought we'd be 5 points clear with 3 games to go?

Well done Brendan Rodgers - Make us dream.

Jury is out on Rodgers and how he might spend whatever pocket money he gets for new players. He's signed some right muck so far...

Rodgers is very smart tactically but possibly his best signings have been in sports science and
the psychological side of the game which seems to have bridged the gap.

Not sure if the backroom staff side is all his doing or something FSG introduced from over the
pond to help but its been a lethal combination.

He has signed some very poor players but also got the maximum from lads that had the ability
but underachieved at Liverpool and overall he has surpassed all expectations.

Challenge this summer is not to get too excited and drawn in by agents offering over priced
journeymen looking for champs league football, stay smart and buy hungry players.

Buying hungry players that want to play for Liverpool is what has helped us this season have a great team spirit. It is an easier option when you are buying young unproven players than superstars so we'll see how he does this summer.

Thanks stu.

My reply was in response to the original post having no balance. Suggesting all Rodgers had singed was "muck". Which clearly isn't the case.

Mignolet and Borini are hardly muck. Both have made some very serious contributions this season. They were hardly £30m marquee players now were they  :help
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years (10 years
are in brackets)
LFC £255m (£467m)
Everton £38m (£287m)
Arsenal £645m6 (£925m)
Spurs £510m (£541m)

Man City £307m (£1012m)
Man United £702m (£1249m)

???

You could have replaced Mignolet with at least half the keepers in the league and we'd have been no worse off...

Borini... seriously... you're classing that as a "serious contribution"?

borini, 4 goals in the league for sunderland and 3 of them where from the spot. thats no where near good enough. 1 goal from open play  :no he shouldnt be brought back.
i am a little buoyed by the fact that rodgers has been trying to secure decent players like mikhtaryan, salah and willian so hopefully he will go a little further this summer and actually get what he wants.
the papers today have him on £97mil since he came in and other than coutinho and sturridge the rest are average, sakho, allen, borini and mingy make up over half of that spend and the rest are bench warmers for us or someone else.
he needs to buck that trend this summer
