Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

carroll is doing okay, he`s not long turned 23 and improving all the time, the basic ingredients are there in his game it`s just up to kenny and the coaching staff to get the best out of him.
here`s his performance against wolves earlier on in the season, some mistakes but some good moments too, note the brave header right at the beginning in a tricky defensive situation, plenty to build on imo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVPvCxA-mGo

Carroll may not of had an outstanding game but he had a physical prescence against Huth and caused problems. I'm pretty sure you fail to see or realise that. You keep asking for stats etc but the important one is games won.

Maxi didnt do much, but he set up the first goal. I cant say i expected too much of a player that hardly ever plays for us, a player that most likely will leave this summer.

Huth had full control over Carroll. Huth is the type of defender that likes slow, big strikers like Carroll. The few times we caused problems for stoke was when we played the ball fast on the ground.

From what I remember Carroll had two men at least marking him throughout the game?
This frees up other players so they can attack more

when you say maxi set up the first goal suarez still had a hell of a lot to do, the cross that suarez tried to take on his chest but ended up handling was probably a better chance created by carroll than the one `created` by maxi.
anyway, wether it was carroll, maxi, suarez....it doesnt matter, they were part of a side that beat a tricky stoke team so well done to all of them.

Well there was some stat I found (forgot where) that says we have won more games with Carroll starting or something like that.

He will do well, he was great at Newcastle so why can't he produce the same form he showed with Newcastle here? Only time will tell.

we have had 8 losses in the league, in four of them carroll wasnt in the starting XI ( stoke away, united away, arsenal home, sunderland away)
the four defeats he started in were - spurs away ( we had 2 men sent off), fulham away (team doing okay until spearing sent off), man city away (as i said in a previous post he was in a team away at the league leaders with no suarez, gerrard or bellamy in the starting XI) and bolton away (terrible performance by the team but carroll had an okay game himself, one of 2 players that left the game with any credit (the other was bellamy))
as for the infamous draws - sunderland home - he started, norwich home - on bench, swansea home - in side, wigan away - on bench, blackburn home - in side, stoke home - on bench.
he only started in half those drawn games.
people are blaming carroll for our poor results but he was on the bench for half of them, and as for the four losses he was involved in, in 2 of the games liverpool players were sent off.

Excellent post. I'm not Andy's biggest fan but he is a key reason we are going back to Wembley. He made Evra look useless when he flicked on a 70 yard punt for Pepe for Dirk to score and some of the haters and especially the renamed Kerry (D-C).Yes he's got limitations but he has also got the ability to cause defenders considerable trouble should back off.It is up to the team to use him and provide a decent supply line which has not been the case with Downing and Henderson but I'm sure it will get better.

Andy Carroll contribited zilch for us yesterday, and allowed a Stoke player (Crouch) to have a free header for the goal. He contributed more to Stoke than us.. hence minus. In other words, he is a bigger negative on the team than a plus. He doesnt score, he doesnt create, he doesnt link up play, he is a spare part... and we will never contend with the best teams in the league with him playing upfront.

In todays inflated market, hes a 12m pound player. Thats nowhere near good enough for this club. Again, we offloaded Peter Crouch and he is a better player than Andy Carroll. There is no-one on this site (or any other) who will argue that one.

So why did Spurs sell him to a bunch of hoofers for relatively little money?

is one of his limitations an inability to sprint?
is another one an inability to read the game?
how about his inability to be in the right place at the right time?
or the inability to head a goal?
or strike a goal for that matter?

It's beyond me why people stick up for a striker who will be gone in the summer, he has not worked out for us, probably because we play a different style to the barcodes, but in any case Carroll is a terrible striker and nothing I have seen of him has convinced me otherwise. I mean hand on heart who wouldn't rather have had Crouch in our starting line-up yesterday?
I've said before that i wish the best for Andy and i would love to be proved wrong but he needs to learn the basics of how to play as a striker or at least be reminded, would have thought Kenny could give him some pointers.

I just can't envisage Liverpool spending 35 million on a striker ,and then letting him walk away without giving him another season at the very minimum .

dont talk rubbish, over the past 8 weeks he`s probably been our best player apart from skrtel.
was he ***** when he scored against oldham in the cup even though he was only on the pitch for about 5 minutes? was he ***** when he scored against wolves? what about when he got MoM against brighton for scoring one and setting luis up for another? what about his MoM performance against united in the cup? he set dirk up for the winner and dont forget dirk missed an absolute sitter about a minute after that when carroll hit the bar with a header and bounced right to kuyt who somehow missed. what about carroll`s performance in the recent derby?
carroll is an effective player who causes opposition defences problems, his link up play is getting better, in the last 2 games alone he has set suarez up with 3 really good goalscoring chances and quite a few half chances.

I agree that he's improved a little, but our best player??  I must have been watching a different team

Must be one of them?
Who do you think has played better?

Because Spurs aspire to challenge with the teams at the top, just as we did when we offloaded him for Torres.

Given that Peter Crouch is a better player than Andy Carroll, and we offloaded him because we aspired to be better, why have we gone backwards in terms of quality?
