Ledley King Injury - Good News for Carragher?

Liverpool Football Club - The Players Lounge

Ledley King out of world cup with broken bone in foot . Although Carragher was odds on to be in the squad he was not a certainty . Surely now however he's on the plane ?  :D

Gerrard ,Crouch and Carragher for England .  :buttrock   :buttrock   :buttrock

he deserves it for sure. Played in his position (role), in the world cup I am sure he will be immense.
Good luck Jamie. :)

Even though the commentator on the Spurs vs Man Utd game said before it's only a stress fracture, i.e. not as bad as the injuries to metatarsals suffered by Beckham, Neville and Owen in recent years, he still may only be out for four weeks.

King's season is definitely over, but he still might make the World Cup.  The squad is announced on May 15th 2006.

Either way, I can see Carragher on the plane.  King played in a deep midfield position against Argentina in that friendly a few months back.  Carragher could almost certainly do a job there as well.  It will depend if King is fit or not because you would have to say King is worthy of a place in the squad.  But Carragher is more than worthy.

It will depend on King's fitness if you ask me, and Sven will probably leave it until the last minute and a few fitness tests, but yes, it is looking good for Carragher.

I missed that bit Jonny , was under impression it was more serious .However as you point out even when healed he'll have to get fit and were talking MATCH fit . There'll be no games available in which he can do that .

Think everyone in the country would agree that Carra is the most versatile defender England have and should be in the squad by right . Jamie can play any defensive role .

I know it's not the accepted order of things, but I agree with this.  Ferdinand's a loose cannon, which would be fine if he was out on the wing, but he's a central defender.  I don't care how silky smooth he looks when he going forward, he's far too prone to mistakes for my liking.  Terry has got one CB place nailed down, and I'd give the other to Carra.  I know who I'd rather play against if I was an attacker.

on the up side, sven will be gone soon and lets hope the manager has the balls to make decisions and drop players who dont deserve to be on the pitch

Carra deserves to be in the England starting line-up, not just as a squad player who Sven plays at full back to finn-in for Ashley Cole or Neville.

John Terry should be the captain, not the softie Becks.

Good luck, England - with the best players in years but a t!t of a manager who knows b@lls about tactics anf how to play effectively, there goes any hopes of lifting the WCup!

to be honest woof, i think carragher was nailed on even before ledley king got injured. i could see him starting at left back if ashley cole's not fit.
