Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby ethanr » Wed Nov 28, 2012 11:34 pm

That game was hard to watch.  I was watching it in class at my university, and was scaring the Sh*t out of everybody around me.  I'm pretty sure I'll be referred to as that crazy guy who talks to himself and mumbles at his laptop.

For one, never a free kick, and they get a goal off of it, surprise surprise.  We had 2 clear as day pens in my opinion, especially the one on Gerrard, and no call, of course.  Bale correctly booked for diving, and he swung out at Enrique, thats a straight red alone, and the sideline told Dowd to give him a card, and Dowd ignored him, although there were only 4 minutes left.  Spurs got a free kick every single time they went to ground, which was ridiculous considering what we couldn't get free kicks with.  We had 18 fouls to their 8, which should show the one-sidedness of Dowd's decision alone considering we also owned 65% of the possession.  When does a team with 65% of the possession ever out foul their opponents? Pretty much never, but we somehow managed to more than double their number of fouls.  12 corners to 1, there were times when we'd go 20 minutes where spurs only cleared the ball to Reina.  WE completely dominated them, and a few horrible decisions and poor finishing leaves us with a loss.

Another thing that ***** me the f*ck off. What was with our touch on the side lines today?  We seemed to dribble out of bounds or let the ball roll under our foot 600000 times today.  I saw Johnson do it a couple times, Sterling, Enrique, Assaidi, Suarez, Hendo, Shelvey, Downing did it 4 or 5 times.  What the f*ck was going on?

I thought the reds in the second half were sensational ,Spurs were simply taken apart ...After January and the probable acquisition of a striker it will only be the referees that can stop our surge up the table ,Dembele and co looked ordinary ,and the usual media superlatives that surround a Bale performance will have to be saved for another performance .....most hyped fucking player in the history of the Premiership .

Any questions pertaining to Downing and why he shouldn't be used at LB were addressed by Lennon who was allowed to drift in at the back post like he was
being camouflaged by the London fog . Goal 1 .. Goal 2 arrived from a very dodgy free kick decision courtesy of a deflected shot from a resident of Dr Seuss's Whoville .

Whilst being a strong advocate for Gerrard to be subsequently dropped to the bench I thought Henderson was awful in midfield ,and Gerrard was much better
in the second half . All in all the way we took the game by the scruff of the neck and hem them back in their own half was nothing short of laying siege to their goal  its testament to Rodgers coaching abilities  that we have never dominated proceedings against our biggest "Bogey team" to that extent for some considerable time .

I thought Enrique was superb tonight and just behind the imperious Agger as my Man of the match .

That said we should have won, and won comfortably ....perhaps we could get a real LB in place for the next game ?

If we aren't going to spend in Jan think it's time to recall Carroll. Plan C in my books but it's not like we have any other options.

Just think had Suarez scored and had Henderson scored, that's a 3-2 victory. I'm disappointed, but not disheartened.

Had Suarez or Henderson scored they would have came at us. I think they were happy to sit back and let us have the ball. If they’re 2 goals up playing against us it’s not really going to bother them. I’m thinking our attack must be an utter joke to other teams  :glare: With Borini back we’ll at least have another option but we still have this issue of not having a presence in the box, and I don’t mean “a big traditional number 9” — I mean a poacher! Someone whose in the box at the right times or who is always available in the box.

Southampton at the weekend — Is anybody on this forum seriously confident about winning that game… I doubt it.

Knew it. Spurs are a top 8 team. We're mid-table fodder who struggle to score and have a fragile defense.

On top of that we saw Henderson's real prominence in the space of 5 mins in a Red shirt. He had an open goal to shoot at, in the corner of his eye he saw a defender flying in and was too scared to put his foot through it because he may have been hurt. He then brought Dempsey down a min later (I can't defend him on this issue - simply because he doesn't defend the Liverpool badge), then is plonked in to the wall and as such is worried his hair is going to get messed up and moves his head out the way resulting in a deflection and goal for Spurs.

Moral to the story" Don't put this ugly poser in a Liverpool shirt never mind a fecking wall as he's utter gutless

If I could get my hands on that other waste of space Downing, I'd happily do bird for him.

You do know his record is 3 goals in his last 36 ish league games. He has scored 1 goal in 9 starts for West Ham. Am I missing something? We desperately need  a striker to support Luis who can score goals. Take a look at West Ham forums if you want to see what they think of him.

We played some good stuff at times, but Brendan needs to realise we can't play Downing at left back.
If Enrique or Johnson don't play there you need to play a left back there, it really isn't that difficult.
Even if it's young Robinson, he must deserve a chance.

From RAWK:

Disappointed? Sure, it's 3 points lost but what a fantastic effort from the lads. Absolutely gutted for them. After the relative dross of the performance down at Swansea I really did fear the worst. However, we actually ended up turning in probably our finest performance of the season.

Spirited and plucky? Sure. But it was so much more in terms of collective skill and cohesion and attacking intent of the overall team performance. A performance into which the team grew as the game wore on and self belief grew with it. How we lost it, f*ck knows.

And this against a team who have spent big on fine players and really do fancy their chances right up at the top end of the league yet who, despite their porky victory, will deep down still be pig sick that from 20 minutes in they were so utterly and comprehensively outplayed on their own midden it was embarrassing.

Anybody who failed to see the distinction in tonight's overall team performance to others that we've turned in so far this season needs to watch the thing again and delight in our play. Yes it mirrored so many performances in terms of the lack of that so vital clinical finishing but that's where the similarities end. The overall play was superb and Spurs genuinely did get out of gaol tonight.

Tonight Rodgers was absolutely spot on in labelling our performance magnificent. Most times his praise of the team performance is often hollow and occasionally way OTT, clearly aimed at boosting morale. Tonight though he said it with real conviction because it was actually bang on the f*cking money.

Of course, the big question to which nobody has any answers until it reveals itself these coming weeks is whether the manager and players can build on such a positive approach and performance and not only go for the jugular of each team we play but snap the ***** thing in two.

Tonight though I'm a happy man. Sunday I was climbing the ***** walls with our lameness and ineptitude against a team there for the taking. Tonight without a solitary point I'll sleep easily as we all but mullered a top team who had to strain at the bit to contain us. That they managed it owes a huge amount to their good fortune and some really cruel breaks for the team in red black.

That's a short-term view Lakes. What we need to see is progress and it was evident in our performance last night. I thought it was as good as we've played all season.

The thing is with Henderson there is potential there but I've personally given up on him due to his lack of positive application.

Similarly though Gerrard's also irritated me walking around the pitch and Allen has been very poor recently.

Our midfield needs an attacking dynamo and it's patently clear Gerrard isn't up to it anymore. Our midfield, last season included do not chip in with it's fair share of goals. This is often overlooked because of our lack of options upfront but this fact still remains. And I honestly don't see it getting any better while waiting for Lucas's return, sure he'll add more cover there in midfield but we don't have the midfielders who are willing to run and get in behind oppo's defense and cause havoc up the other end.
